Background: Injectable fillers, such as those containing hyaluronic acid (HA), are increasingly used to smooth age-related facial creases and wrinkles.

Objective: To compare efficacy and safety of a HA gel with lidocaine formulated by XpresHAn Technology (HARDL) with a HA gel without lidocaine produced by Hylacross technology (HAJUP) in the treatment of moderate-to-severe nasolabial folds.

Materials And Methods: Subjects (n = 162) received initial and touch-up injections with HARDL and HAJUP on either side of the face.

Background: Treatment of acne vulgaris (acne) with dapsone gel, 5% requires twice-daily dosing, and some patients may not adhere to this regimen.


Objective: The objective of this study was to assess the efficacy and safety of a new, once-daily formulation of dapsone gel, 7.5%, with a 50% higher dapsone concentration, versus vehicle over 12 weeks in patients with acne.

Muir-Torre Syndrome: A Case Associated with an Infrequent Gene Mutation.

Muir-Torre syndrome is a rare, autosomal dominant genodermatosis characterized by the presence of at least one sebaceous gland neoplasm, associated with an underlying visceral malignancy. Muir-Torre syndrome is believed to be a subtype of Lynch Syndrome. Affected individuals are found to have germline mutations predominantly in DNA mismatch repair gene MSH2, and much less frequently, MLH1.

Piebaldism in children.

Piebaldism is a rare autosomal-dominant disorder of melanocyte development characterized by congenital poliosis and stable patches of leukoderma. Initially, these clinical features may be the presenting signs of various syndromes or associated diseases, which should be considered in the differential diagnosis. We present the case of a 14-year-old adolescent girl with piebaldism, along with a review of the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and management of this disease entity.

A randomized, multicenter, double-blind, vehicle-controlled study evaluating the efficacy and safety of luliconazole cream 1% once daily for 7 days in patients aged ≥ 12 years with tinea cruris.

Background: Tinea cruris, a pruritic superficial fungal infection of the groin, is the second most common clinical presentation for dermatophytosis.

Objective: This phase 3 study evaluated the safety and efficacy of topical luliconazole cream 1% in patients with tinea cruris.

Methods: 483 patients were enrolled and 256 male and female patients aged ≥12 years with clinically evident tinea cruris and eligible for modified intent-to-treat analysis were randomized 2:1 to receive luliconazole cream 1% (n=165) or vehicle (n=91) once daily for 7 days.

Background/objectives: A combination topical suspension/gel containing calcipotriene plus betamethasone dipropionate has been developed as a safe and effective treatment for patients with psoriasis vulgaris of the scalp. This same preparation has the potential to be a convenient, effective, and cosmetically appealing formulation for psoriasis on the body. This trial evaluated the efficacy and safety of a topical suspension containing calcipotriene plus betamethasone dipropionate compared with its constituent components and topical suspension vehicle in the treatment of mild to moderate psoriasis on the trunk and limbs.

Purpose: Mortalities due to skin cancer are escalating, but early detection via skin examinations can be beneficial. To date, dermatologists have not been isolated as a high-risk population for developing skin cancer, although some evidence suggests that they are a high-risk group. Therefore, the specific aims of this study were to measure the frequency at which dermatologists perform self-skin examination and receive full-body skin examination.

Effecting skin renewal: a multifaceted approach.

The skin undergoes intrinsic aging as a normal course, but exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light results in major cumulative damage that manifests as the typical aged photodamaged skin. UV irradiation produces a sequence of changes within the skin layers starting with signaling processes following DNA damage and culminating in nonabsorbed fragmentation of collagen and other proteins within the extracellular matrix. These fragments promote the synthesis of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) that further aggravate the damage to the ground substance and add to fragment accumulation.

Reductions in healthcare resource utilization in psoriatic arthritis patients receiving etanercept therapy: results from the educate trial.

The Experience Diagnosing, Understanding Care, and Treatment with Enbrel (EDUCATE) trial is a phase IV, 24-week, multicenter, open-label study of etanercept 50 mg weekly in the treatment of psoriatic arthritis (PsA) in community dermatology clinics. In this study, patients with active PsA and moderate to severe plaque psoriasis have measurable uses of healthcare resources at baseline, reflecting a burden of illness. Etanercept significantly reduced healthcare resource utilization, absenteeism, and caregiver assistance in PsA patients after 24 weeks of treatment.
