Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the COVID-19 positivity rates during presurgical screenings for ophthalmic patients and analyze surgical outcomes, along with the overall costs involved.
  • Out of 3,585 patients screened, only 13 asymptomatic cases (0.36%) tested positive, and 10 of these were newly identified infections, leading to a few surgery delays averaging 17 days.
  • The total cost of screening was approximately $800,000, suggesting the need for more focused future studies on targeted presurgical testing rather than blanket testing.
