Financial Justification for Interventional Pulmonology Programs: Terminology and Programmatic Models.

Interventional pulmonology programs provide clinical benefit to patients and are financially sustainable. To appreciate and illustrate the economic value of interventional pulmonology programs to hospital systems, physicians must have an understanding of basic health-care finance. Total revenue, adjusted gross revenue, contribution margin, variable direct costs, and indirect costs are terms that are essential for understanding the finances of bronchoscopy.

Decreasing unnecessary utilization in acute bronchiolitis care: results from the value in inpatient pediatrics network.

Background: Acute viral bronchiolitis is the most common diagnosis resulting in hospital admission in pediatrics. Utilization of non-evidence-based therapies and testing remains common despite a large volume of evidence to guide quality improvement efforts.

Objective: Our objective was to reduce utilization of unnecessary therapies in the inpatient care of bronchiolitis across a diverse network of clinical sites.

Pediatric hospital medicine: a strategic planning roundtable to chart the future.

Given the growing field of Pediatric Hospital Medicine (PHM) and the need to define strategic direction, the Society of Hospital Medicine, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Academic Pediatric Association sponsored a roundtable to discuss the future of the field. Twenty-one leaders were invited plus a facilitator utilizing established health care strategic planning methods. A "vision statement" was developed.
