Helicopter Emergency Medical Services Literature 1972-2017: Characteristics and Trends.

Since its inception in the latter part of the 20th century, the rapid expansion of helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS) has been accompanied by remarkable growth in the relevant evidence base. There are many review articles describing lessons contained within the various arenas of HEMS literature, but there is little or no characterization of the numbers and types of publications comprising the HEMS-related evidence base. This study analyzed all indexed publications mentioning HEMS (with abstract included) in the United States National Library of Medicine's PubMed collection.

New initiatives in allied health in North Carolina.

In addition to providing a well-prepared and diverse workforce of allied health professionals, North Carolina universities are helping to improve access to care and outreach to underserved communities. This commentary will discuss workforce preparation initiatives and innovations that help all North Carolinians access timely and high-quality services.

The role of allied health in health care reform.

The wide-ranging and significant disciplines representing allied health constitute the largest and one of the most rapidly growing health care workforces in North Carolina. With anticipated increases in patients' access to care, allied health professionals will need to call on their full scope of practice as part of a comprehensive health care team.
