Article Synopsis
  • The BP11 blood pressure monitor is one of the cheapest options in the UK market, with around 1.5 million units sold since its 2006 launch, highlighting the need for validated accuracy due to increased home monitoring.
  • The device underwent validation using the European Society of Hypertension's protocol and was audited under ISO17025 standards, involving nine measurements to compare the device's readings with trained observers.
  • Results showed that the BP11 met the protocol's requirements, with minimal differences in measurements, confirming its reliability for both home and professional use in adults.

Background: The Omron M7 (HEM-780-E) is an automated oscillometric upper arm blood pressure monitor for the professional and home use markets. The aim of this study was to validate the accuracy of this device according to the British Hypertension Society (BHS) and the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) SP10 validation criteria.

Methods: Participants were recruited until a total of 85 were obtained that filled the blood pressure ranges specified by the BHS protocol.

Background: It is widely recommended that sphygmomanometers are maintained and calibrated regularly to ensure that the pressure scale remains accurate to within the European Standard specification of +/-3 mmHg. In primary care, however, such checks are reported to be only rarely performed. This paper describes a survey of the accuracy of the absolute static pressure scale of aneroid, mercury and automated sphygmomanometers in clinical use in primary care.

Background: Demand for devices that allow the self-assessment of blood pressure continues to rise. Few self-assessment devices, however, have been validated against recognised protocols. The aim of this study was to validate the Omron MX3 Plus (model HEM-742-E) oscillometric blood pressure measuring device in accordance with the international protocol of the European Society of Hypertension.
