Aims: To report the first noninvasive urodynamic screening of lower urinary tract dysfunction (LUTD) in children, adolescents, and young adults with Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS).

Methods: We recruited 37 PWS patients with/without lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) from our hospital. Uroflowmetry was performed in 36 patients.

Objective: To determine the age-specific lowest acceptable value of bladder capacity (LABC) for interpretation of uroflowmetry tests in children.

Methods: From September 2008 through July 2012, healthy children aged 4-9 years were enrolled. All children were asked to have two sets of uroflowmetry and post-void residual (PVR) tests.

Bladder outlet obstruction (BOO) should be considered when a woman complains of voiding difficulty, abdominal straining to void, or refractory storage symptoms. Diagnosis of female BOO is not straightforward and usually requires invasive (video)urodyanmic study. A diagnostic algorithm is recommended for making optimal diagnosis.

Objective: We compared the lower urinary tract symptoms between middle-aged men with and without chronic kidney disease (CKD) under 50 years of age.

Methods: Between October 2010 and July 2013, patients with CKD aged below 50 who received regular follow-ups at the nephrology outpatient clinics were enrolled. We also enrolled men aged below 50 years with estimated glomerular filtration rates (eGFR) higher than 60 mL/min per 1.

Background: In this study we present our experience using minilaparoscopic intracorporeal knot tying to ligate internal spermatic veins (ISV) while sparing the spermatic artery and lymphatics.

Methods: Minilaparoscopic varicocelectomies were performed in 87 patients between January 2004 and January 2009. All varicoceles were detected clinically according to the World Health Organization (WHO) classification and confirmed by scrotal color Doppler ultrasonography.

Purpose: To evaluate the inter-observer and intra-observer agreement on the interpretation of uroflowmetry curves of children.

Materials And Methods: Healthy kindergarten children were enrolled for evaluation of uroflowmetry. Uroflowmetry curves were classified as bell-shaped, tower, plateau, staccato and interrupted.

Background: To validate its safety and efficacy, we evaluated our preliminary results of the three-port minilaparoscopic nerve-sparing extravesical ureteral reimplantation for patients with vesicoureteral reflux (VUR).

Methods: Between July 2005 and February 2007, 9 consecutive patients (4 girls and 5 boys) with a mean age of 3.4 years (range, 7 months to 5 years) underwent a minilaparoscopic nerve sparing extravesical ureteral reimplantation for VUR.

Background: This prospective, randomized, single-blind trial was to determine if local anesthesia or oral analgesics reduce postoperative pain after mini-laparoscopic functional surgery.

Methods: One hundred fifteen patients who underwent mini-laparoscopic herniorrhaphy or varicocelectomy were assigned randomly to receive wound infiltration with xylocaine, regular oral analgesics, or a placebo after the procedures. Visual analog pain scores owing to carbon-dioxide irritation and trocar wounds were recorded 2 hours, 1 day, and 1 week after surgery.

The anterior urethral valve (AUV) is a rare congenital urethral anomaly that can lead to variable urinary tract symptoms. We report on a 13-year-old boy with AUV who was referred from a primary care physician for nocturnal enuresis. AUV was disclosed by videourodynamic study and confirmed by simultaneous retrograde cystourethroscopy and antegrade urethroscopy.

Background: We designed a technique of pure minilaparoscopic hernia sac transaction and ligation to repair primary inguinal hernias in children and young adults.

Methods: Between September 2003 and December 2004, 83 patients with primary inguinal hernia were treated surgically with minilaparoscopic herniorrhaphy. The mean patient age was 6.

Purpose: To compare the pain induced by outpatient flexible cystoscopy in men having local lidocaine jelly application or plain lubricant.

Patients And Methods: We performed a randomized, double-blind study to compare the anesthetic effect of intraurethral 2% lidocaine gel (N = 45) and plain lubricant (N = 46) in men undergoing outpatient flexible cystoscopy. The age, prostate size, and examination time were similar in the two groups.

Purpose: We report a prospective randomized study comparing the effects of highly potent and moderately potent topical steroids in treating pediatric phimosis.

Materials And Methods: A total of 70 boys 1 to 12 years old with phimosis were randomly assigned to receive topical application of either betamethasone valerate 0.06% (a highly potent steroid) or clobetasone butyrate 0.

A 66-year-old man underwent hand-assisted laparoscopic radical nephrectomy (HALN) for a 10 x 7-cm, stage T(2)N(0)M(0) right-sided renal-cell carcinoma. Nine months later, tumor recurrence was noted at the previous hand port site. This is the first case report of such a metastasis.

Objectives: Using videourodynamics (VUDS) we prospectively investigated the etiologies of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and low uroflow in young men and correlated the results with clinical symptoms and noninvasive exams.

Methods: From 1999 to 2001, 90 men 18-50 years old with LUTS and low uroflow were enrolled. Patients with active urinary tract infection, congenital urogenital diseases, neurological diseases, diabetes mellitus or urinary tract malignancy were excluded.

Purpose: We recorded uroflowmetry at home in boys with urinary incontinence and correlated the results with videourodynamics.

Materials And Methods: Thirty-nine boys (mean age 8.4 +/- 2.

Purpose: We introduce a hydrodissection technique to preserve the thin distal urethra when treating chordee without hypospadias.

Materials And Methods: A total of 18 patients with chordee but without hypospadias were surgically treated in 3 years, including 7 (38.9%) with a segment of thin distal urethra.

Purpose: We assessed the efficacy and safety of the mid term use of alpha1-adrenergic blockers for treating primary bladder neck obstruction in young and middle-aged men.

Materials And Methods: Between May 1998 and February 2001 primary bladder neck obstruction was diagnosed by videourodynamic study in 28 men younger than 55 years. The degree of obstruction was graded by the Schafer nomogram.

Background And Purpose: Total correction of proximal hypospadias and penoscrotal transposition (PST) is a challenge to surgeons. Staged operation is usually recommended because the blood supply to the neourethra or the skin covering the penile shaft may be severed during scrotoplasty. This paper describes results obtained using a new technique for total correction, which preserves the blood supply to the neourethra in a one-stage operation.
