Radiological outcomes following surgical fixation with wires versus moulded cast for patients with a dorsally displaced fracture of the distal radius: a radiographic analysis from the DRAFFT2 trial.

Aims: The primary aim of this study was to report the radiological outcomes of patients with a dorsally displaced distal radius fracture who were randomized to a moulded cast or surgical fixation with wires following manipulation and closed reduction of their fracture. The secondary aim was to correlate radiological outcomes with patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) in the year following injury.

Methods: Participants were recruited as part of DRAFFT2, a UK multicentre clinical trial.

Pain and outcomes of carpal tunnel release under local anaesthetic with or without a tourniquet: a randomized controlled trial.

Unlabelled: We conducted a prospective randomized controlled trial to investigate carpal tunnel decompression under local anaesthesia. Carpal tunnel decompression was performed in 37 wrists using local anaesthesia and an arm tourniquet and 36 without tourniquet but with a local anaesthetic mixture containing adrenaline. Patients who underwent carpal tunnel decompression using a tourniquet experienced a significantly greater degree of pain when compared with those who did not have a tourniquet.

Reverse oblique intertrochanteric fractures have unique mechanical characteristics and are often treated with intramedullary implants. We compared the outcomes of the reconstruction trochanteric antegrade nail (TAN) with the proximal femoral nail antirotation (PFNA). Between July 2008 and February 2014, we reviewed all patients with reverse oblique intertrochanteric fractures treated at our hospital.

Hindfoot arthrodesis for management of bone loss following calcaneus fractures and nonunions.

Massive bone loss following calcaneal fractures is a challenging condition to treat, especially if nonunion is present. Meticulous preoperative examination and imaging are crucial for accurate preoperative planning. If performed, successful outcomes can be achieved with the strategies outlined in this article.

Scarf osteotomy for the correction of hallux valgus: midterm clinical outcome.

We prospectively reviewed 22 patients (31 feet) who underwent a scarf osteotomy between January 2001 and March 2002. There were 20 females and 2 males. Ages ranged from 35 to 77 years (mean = 57 years).
