Conservation agriculture (CA) is a set of principles thought to be able to enhance crop productivity while minimizing impacts on the environment. The evidence base for CA can be challenging to synthesize because it encompasses many different practices and social and agroecological outcomes. To facilitate synthesis of CA evidence we have created a dataset organizing 218 response variables from five common categories of CA: cover crops, tillage management, pest management, nutrient management, and crop diversification.

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been around for thousands of years and is increasingly gaining popularity in the Western world to treat various complex disorders including the incurable neurodegenerative condition, Parkinson's Disease (PD). One of the many directions in recent studies of PD is utilizing the phenotypic assay, or cytological profiling, to evaluate the phenotypic changes of PD-implicated cellular components in patient-derived olfactory neuroepithelial (hONS) cells, upon treating the cells with extracts or pure compounds. To obtain small molecules for studies utilizing PD phenotyping assays, Hort was selected for analysis as it is a popular Chinese herbal medicine used for treating PD-like symptoms.

The study of consanguineous families has provided novel insights into genetic causes of monogenic parkinsonism. Here, we present a family from the rural Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan, where three siblings were diagnosed with early-onset parkinsonism. Background: The X-chromosome gene USP9X encodes a deubiquitylating enzyme that has been associated with neurodevelopmental disorders primarily in female subjects. USP9X escapes X inactivation, and in female subjects de novo heterozygous copy number loss or truncating mutations cause haploinsufficiency culminating in a recognizable syndrome with intellectual disability and signature brain and congenital abnormalities. Climate warming may stimulate microbial metabolism of soil carbon, causing a carbon-cycle-climate feedback whereby carbon is redistributed from the soil to atmospheric CO. The magnitude of this feedback is uncertain, in part because warming-induced shifts in microbial physiology and/or community composition could retard or accelerate soil carbon losses.
