Article Synopsis
  • Polyhydramnios, or excessive amniotic fluid, is common and usually idiopathic, but can be linked to fetal abnormalities; this study looked at how well fluid volume identifies cases needing further investigation.
  • The research analyzed data from 120 pregnancies diagnosed with polyhydramnios, finding that 30% had fetal abnormalities, but the total amniotic fluid index (AFI) did not significantly differ between abnormal and normal cases.
  • However, when adjusted for fetal weight, higher fluid volume (AFI per kg) was strongly associated with increased abnormality rates, particularly when diagnosed in earlier stages of pregnancy, indicating the importance of considering gestational age when interpreting fluid levels.

Purpose: Trastuzumab improves survival in patients with HER2+ early breast cancer. However, cardiotoxicity remains a concern, particularly in the curative setting, and there are limited data on its incidence outside of clinical trials. We retrospectively evaluated the cardiotoxicity rates [left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) decline, congestive heart failure (CHF), cardiac death or trastuzumab discontinuation] and assessed the performance of a proposed model to predict cardiotoxicity in routine clinical practice.

Vaginal ovarian cystectomy has not gained wide acceptance owing to the potential difficulty in entering the cul-de-sac. We review the current evidence on vaginal approaches to benign ovarian cysts. Outcome measures of interest included time to return to work, patient satisfaction, surgical complications and length of hospital stay.

Introduction: Small-for-gestational-age (SGA) confers a higher perinatal risk of adverse outcomes. Birthweight cannot be accurately measured until delivery, therefore accurate estimated fetal weight (EFW) based on ultrasonography is important in identifying this high-risk population. We aimed to establish the sensitivity of detecting SGA infants antenatally in a unit with a selective third-trimester ultrasound policy and to investigate the association between EFW and birthweight in these babies.
