Intravenous Push Cephalosporin Antibiotics in the Emergency Department: A Practice Improvement Project.

Delays in administration of appropriate antibiotics to patients with septic shock are associated with increased mortality. To improve the care of patients with sepsis within our 73-bed emergency department (ED), a "first-dose" intravenous push (IVP) cephalosporin antibiotic protocol was initiated. This project was aimed at improving the time from provider order of antibiotic to administration, which follows the Sepsis Core Measure of timely antibiotic administration.

Shell cross-linked Au nanoparticles.

The organic layer of thiol-protected Au nanoparticles (ca.3 nm in diameter) was cross-linked using ring-opening metathesis polymerization or Michael addition of polyfunctional amines. The shell cross-linked nanoparticles showed increased stability toward thermal treatment and oxidative etching.

Au nanoparticle-imprinted polymers.

Au nanoparticles protected with a polymerisable ligand were incorporated into bulk macroporous polymers; etching the metal core resulted in disulfide-lined, nanometre-scale cavities capable of recognising similarly-sized Au particles.

Design of 3-D coordination networks: topology and metrics.

Using 4,4',4"-tricyanotriphenylmethanol 1 as a heterotetradentate tecton with C3v symmetry bearing three CN and one OH group, under self-assembly conditions a 3-D coordination network was obtained in the presence of Ag+ cations acting as a tetrahedral metallic tecton; due to the metrics of 1 (three long and one short distance between the central C atom and N and O coordination sites, respectively), the 3-D network is of pseudo-diamondoid type with different cavity sizes; although a two-fold homo-interpenetration is observed for the 3-D networks, the remaining space is occupied by CHCl3, MeOH solvent molecules and SbF6- anions.
