Objectives: This scoping review aimed to synthesize research on the health experiences of LGBTQ+ people living with dementia (PLWD) and their caregivers, and the impact of health policies on this population.

Methods: Six databases were searched for research studies and policy literature. Titles, abstracts, and full texts were reviewed by a three-member team.

Article Synopsis
  • Meniscal injuries are prevalent among young, active individuals, and surgical options like meniscal allograft transplantation (MAT) are increasingly being used to address these injuries and restore function.
  • A thorough review of literature on MAT was conducted, including 41 studies, where most were rated as having 'Critically Low' to 'Low' confidence; patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) showed positive short-term results, but concerns about study quality were prevalent.
  • The review calls for improved research quality, focusing on long-term outcomes, effective surgical techniques, and specific patient criteria to better understand MAT's impact, especially in pediatric populations.

Purpose: Meniscal injuries are common in knee surgery and often require preservation techniques to prevent secondary osteoarthritis. Despite advancements in repair techniques, some patients undergo partial meniscectomy, which can lead to postmeniscectomy syndrome. To address these challenges, meniscal substitution techniques like scaffolds have been developed.

Background: Prosthetic substitution of the talus presents a significant challenge to the foot and ankle surgeon. The shear and compressive forces on the talus and its tenuous blood supply lead to high rates of avascular necrosis and eventual talar collapse. The purpose of this systematic review is to evaluate whether total ankle total talus replacement (TATTR) leads to improved clinical and radiographic outcomes with appropriate safety metrics in patients with a history of avascular necrosis or significant trauma.

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic focused attention on healthcare disparities and inequities faced by individuals within marginalized and structurally disadvantaged groups in the United States. These individuals bore the heaviest burden across this pandemic as they faced increased risk of infection and difficulty in accessing testing and medical care. Individuals experiencing housing insecurity are a particularly vulnerable population given the additional barriers they face.

Background: The literature demonstrating positive outcomes after total ankle arthroplasty (TAA) is mounting. However, the long-term outcomes of TAA (≥ 10 years) remain minimally reported. The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate outcome metrics over multiple TAA studies with greater than 10 years of average follow-up.

Introduction: The ideal procedure for isolated patellofemoral arthritis is a controversial topic. Patellofemoral arthroplasty (PFA) is an option that aims to restore normal kinematics to the knee while preserving bone. PFA has been shown to have benefits compared with total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in this patient population but has historically had a high failure rate.

Objective: To obtain a comprehensive understanding of the implications of environmental and climate factors on sport-related concussion incidence in outdoor contact sports.

Data Sources: MEDLINE (via Ovid), Embase (via Elsevier), CINAHL Complete (via EBSCOhost), SPORTDiscus (via EBSCOhost), and Scopus (via Elsevier).

Study Selection: Studies that report incidence of sport-related concussion, assess data from athletes participating in outdoor contact sports, report on 1 or more climate or environmental factors, and report a diagnosis of concussion performed by a licensed medical professional were included.

Article Synopsis
  • A systematic review analyzed 6,457 studies, filtering down to 14 that compared non-invasive physical exams to standard lab tests; most focused on pregnant women or hospitalized patients.
  • Results showed that no single physical exam technique for diagnosing anemia was the best; using multiple exam sites improved accuracy, but there's a need to balance thoroughness with time constraints during exams.

Objective: To assess the effectiveness of mind-body (MB) exercise interventions provided by physical therapists for reducing pain and disability in people with low back pain (LBP).

Data Sources: MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL, and the Cochrane Library were searched for articles published in English between December 2010 and June 2020.

Study Selection: Randomized controlled trials evaluating the effects of Pilates, yoga, and tai chi interventions performed by physical therapists on pain or disability outcomes in adults with musculoskeletal LBP were included.

Introduction: The treatment of pathologic changes to the talus and surrounding joints presents a unique challenge to the foot and ankle surgeon. The purpose of this systematic review is to summarize the literature for unconstrained (no surrounding fusion or replacement) total talus replacement (TTR) and evaluate whether it leads to improved clinical and radiographic outcomes and appropriate safety metrics.

Methods: Concepts of talus and arthroplasty were searched in MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL Complete, and Scopus from 2005 to 2021.

Low back pain (LBP) remains a musculoskeletal condition with an adverse societal impact. Globally, LBP is highly prevalent and a leading cause of disability. This is an update to the 2012 Academy of Orthopaedic Physical Therapy (AOPT), formerly the Orthopaedic Section of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), clinical practice guideline (CPG) for LBP.

Background: In recent years, there has been growing interest in the use of reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (rTSA) for reconstruction of the proximal humerus after oncologic resection. However, the indications and outcomes of oncologic rTSA remain unclear.

Methods: We conducted a systematic review to identify studies that reported outcomes of patients who underwent rTSA for oncologic reconstruction of the proximal humerus.
