Touching at a distance: the elaboration of communicative functions from the perspective of the interactants.

Touch is an inherent part of human social interactions and the diversity of its functions has been highlighted in numerous works. Given the varied roles of touch, with technology-mediated communication being a big part of our everyday lives, research has been interested in enabling and enhancing distant social interactions with mediated touch over networks. Due to the complexity of the sense of touch and technological limitations, multimodal devices have been developed and investigated.

[Towards "homelike" in nursing home: feedback from a co-design workshop with residents].

While it is necessary to provide « homelike » in nursing homes, the risk is to reduce it to decoration. As the aim is to reconcile care and home, we propose co-design, an approach involving users in the design of living spaces, as a solution. We propose tools and a protocol, then provide feedback from a workshop on co-designing a collective space with three residents in a nursing home in Île-de-France.

The Integration of Live Video Tools to Help Bystanders During an Emergency Call: Protocol for a Mixed Methods Simulation Study.

Background: Early action by bystanders is particularly important for the survival of individuals in need of emergency care, especially those experiencing a cardiac arrest or an airway obstruction. However, only a few bystanders are willing to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The use of a live video during emergency calls appears to have a positive effect on the number of cardiopulmonary resuscitations performed by bystanders.

Ergonomics in design and design in ergonomics: Issues and experience in education.

Use of graphical modality in a collaborative design distant setting.

In this paper, we present an original environment, the Distributed Collaborative Design Studio (DCDS) which allows multimodal real-time remote exchanges, and which aims at re-creating remotely the conditions of co-present meetings. This environment associates a videoconference tool (supporting verbal and non-verbal communication) and an original realtime shared digital hand-drawn sketches system (supporting graphical communication). The users can import documents and annotate them in real-time at distance.
