We conducted a single-center retrospective cohort study to determine the performance characteristics of the galactomannan (GM) assay in bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) in patients with hematologic malignancies. Patients were classified as proven, probable, possible, or no invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA), according to international guidelines. A total of 173 BAL samples from 145 patients were included.

Chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD) frequently complicates allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), but small bowel involvement with obstruction is rarely observed. We report two patients who underwent allogeneic sibling HSCT and developed severe cGVHD involving the small bowel, causing unremitting obstructive symptoms and malnutrition despite maximal immunosuppression. Both patients underwent ileal resection and stricturoplasties.

Objective: Transesophageal echocardiography is a diagnostic and monitoring modality. The objectives of our study were to compare the diagnoses obtained with continuous transesophageal echocardiography and hemodynamic monitoring in the intensive care unit, to determine interobserver variability of diagnosis obtained with both modalities, and to evaluate its impact.
