- This review analyzes clinical trials since 1985 to understand the effectiveness, patient selection, and ventilatory techniques of long-term Home-NPPV for stable COPD patients who experience high levels of carbon dioxide in their blood (PaCO2 ≥50 mm Hg).
- NPPV is particularly beneficial if it significantly reduces hypercapnia by at least 20%, and while well-tolerated pressures up to 28 cm H2O can be effective, those with heart issues may face certain limitations.
Multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) is of low proportion in comparison to the total number of TB patients, however, due to the necessity of a complex medication with potentially severe and life threatening adverse reactions, long term sequelae, and unfavorable outcome special attention is essential. We report the case of a 30-year-old geriatric nurse with a history of chronic cough and hereditary alpha-1-anti-trypsin deficiency (AATD), who suffered from MDR-TB and experienced a number of severe adverse reactions.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFWe investigated potential transmissions of a symptomatic SARS-CoV-2-positive physician in a tertiary-care hospital who worked for 15 cumulative hours without wearing a face mask. No in-hospital transmissions occurred, despite 254 contacts among patients and healthcare workers. In conclusion, exposed hospital staff continued work, accompanied by close clinical and virologic monitoring.
