Mechanical testing by sporting governing bodies ensures artificial turf surfaces conform with performance standards. Rotational traction is measured using two equivalent devices: a rotational traction tester (RTT) and a lightweight rotational traction tester (LRTT). The devices differ in target rotational velocity; 72 deg/s for the RTT and 30 deg/s for the LRTT.

Purpose: Laparoscopy is used in many surgical specialties. Subjective reports have suggested that performing laparoscopic surgery in patients with a high body mass index (BMI) is leading to increased prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms in surgeons. The aim of this study was to objectively quantify the impact on surgeon upper body kinematics and dynamic workload when performing simulated laparoscopy at different BMI levels.

Laparoscopy is a cornerstone of modern surgical care, with clear advantages for the patients. However, it has also been associated with inducing upper body musculoskeletal disorders amongst surgeons due to their propensity to assume non-neutral postures. Further, there is a perception that patients with high body mass indexes (BMI) exacerbate these factors.

Unlabelled: The influence of anthropometry and body composition on running economy is unclear, with previous investigations involving small relatively homogeneous groups of runners and limited anthropometric/composition measurements.

Purpose: To comprehensively investigate the relationships of anthropometry and body composition with running economy within a large heterogeneous sample of runners.

Methods: Eighty-five runners (males [M], n = 45; females [F], n = 40), of diverse competitive standard, performed a discontinuous protocol of incremental treadmill running (4-min stages, 1 km·h increments) to establish locomotory energy cost (LEc) of running at submaximal speeds (averaged across 10-12 km·h; the highest common speed < lactate turnpoint).

The study examined the sensitivity of two musculoskeletal models to the parameters describing each model. Two different models were examined: a phenomenological model of human jumping with parameters based on live subject data, and the second a model of the First Dorsal Interosseous with parameters based on cadaveric measurements. Both models were sensitive to the model parameters, with the use of mean group data not producing model outputs reflective of either the performance of any group member or the mean group performance.

The occurrence of skin friction related injuries is an issue for artificial turf sports pitches and remains a barrier to their acceptance. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the current industry standard Securisport® Sports Surface Tester that measures skin surface related frictional behaviour of artificial turf. Little research has been published about the device and its efficacy, despite its widespread use as a standard FIFA test instrument.

Comfort has been shown to be the most desired football boot feature by players. Previous studies have shown discomfort to be related to increased plantar pressures for running shoes which, in some foot regions, has been suggested to be a causative factor in overuse injuries. This study examined the correlation between subjective comfort data and objective plantar pressure for football boots during football-specific drills.
