A 59-year-old woman was referred for specialist treatment due to peri-implantitis affecting four implants in the anterior maxilla. On presentation, probing depths were up to 12 mm with bleeding on probing/suppuration and extensive peri-implant bone loss. There was a history of treated chronic periodontitis.

Introduction: A case of a symptomatic maxillary central incisor that underwent periradicular regenerative surgery with a successful long-term clinical and radiographic outcome is presented.

Methods: A 52-year old woman was referred to the Endodontology Clinic, UCL Eastman Dental Institute and Hospital, London, UK, in 2004 for swelling and discoloration of the maxillary right central incisor. There was a history of trauma 21 years previously.

Assessment of the smile or lip line is imperative when implant therapy is carried out in the esthetic zone. The smile is generally defined as high, average, or low. Females are reported to have higher lip lines than males, which means that they are at greater risk when placing and restoring implants in the esthetic zone.
