Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to observe the risks of COVID-19 in patients with severe asthma who are treated with biologics during the pandemic.
  • Data was collected from 591 severe asthmatics across Greece, revealing that only 4.4% tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, with a small number requiring hospitalization.
  • Findings suggest that severe asthma patients on biologics do not have a higher risk of COVID-19 infection or adverse outcomes compared to the general population.

Upon allergen challenge, DC subsets are recruited to target sites under the influence of chemotactic agents; however, details pertinent to their trafficking remain largely unknown. We investigated the kinetic profiles of blood and skin-infiltrating DC subsets in twelve atopic subjects receiving six weekly intradermal allergen and diluent injections. The role of activin-A, a cytokine induced in allergic and tissue repair processes, on the chemotactic profiles of DC subsets was also examined.

Background: Collection of exhaled breath condensate (EBC) is a safe, non-invasive method to collect droplets of the airway surface liquid and measure mediators of airway inflammation and oxidative stress, such as cysteinyl-leukotrienes (cys-LTs) and 8-isoprostane.

Objective: The aim of our study was to investigate baseline values of inflammatory lipid mediators in EBC and their relation to asthma severity.

Methods: Nineteen healthy subjects, 16 mild, 12 moderate and 15 severe asthmatics were studied.
