Preparing students with disabilities to transition from school to work through self-determination training.

Background: It seems as if youth with disabilities are not graduation high school with the skills that they need to secure employment once they graduate. Particular, they are not graduating with self-determination skills. Instruction in self-determination skills enable youth to be leaders in their own lives and make decisions that will shape their future.

Youth-based participatory research: lessons learned from a transition research study.

Transitions to postsecondary education for youth with disabilities, special health care needs, or both are often challenging. Adults design most interventions aimed at assisting youth in the transition process. In this article, we report on how youth can enhance transition interventions and research.
