We report the results of a search for T and CP violation in B0-B-0 mixing using an inclusive dilepton sample collected by the BABAR experiment at the PEP-II B Factory. The asymmetry between l+l+ and l-l- events allows us to compare the probabilities for B-0-->B0 and B0-->B-0 oscillations and thus probe T and CP invariance. Using a sample of 23 x 10(6) BB- pairs, we measure a same-sign dilepton asymmetry of A(T/CP) = [0.

We present a limit on the branching fraction for the decay B0-->gammagamma using data collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric energy e+e- collider. Based on the observation of one event in the signal region, out of a sample of 21.3x10(6) e+e--->Upsilon(4S)-->BB decays, we establish an upper limit on the branching fraction of B(B0-->gammagamma)<1.

The B(0) and B(+) meson lifetimes have been measured in e(+)e(-) annihilation data collected in 1999 and 2000 with the BABAR detector at center-of-mass energies near the Upsilon(4S) resonance. Events are selected in which one B meson is fully reconstructed in a hadronic final state while the second B meson is reconstructed inclusively. A combined fit to the B(0) and the B(+) decay time difference distributions yields tau(B(0)) = 1.

We present an updated measurement of time-dependent CP-violating asymmetries in neutral B decays with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric B Factory at SLAC. This result uses an additional sample of Upsilon(4S) decays collected in 2001, bringing the data available to 32 x 10(6) BB macro pairs. We select events in which one neutral B meson is fully reconstructed in a final state containing charmonium and the flavor of the other neutral B meson is determined from its decay products.

In order to compare the epidemiology of burns and predisposing factors to burns at two burn centres representing the cities of Aarhus and Copenhagen, Denmark, a prospective study was set up at the University Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology, Aarhus and the Centre of Plastic Surgery and Burns Unit, Hvidovre Hospital, Denmark. Several significant differences in the epidemiology of burns in the two populations were found. Considering the social circumstances, the situation in Aarhus was characterized by the fact that most patients lived in their own houses, had a larger family and a larger family income.

Fifty-seven patients treated for an acute rupture of the Achilles tendon were studied. The patients were randomized into a Mason suture technique or a reinforced continuous six-strand suture technique, and markers were attached to each tendon end perioperatively. The postoperative separation of the markers was studied by repeat radiographic examination.

Heterotopic bone formation after two-stage bilateral cemented total hip arthroplasty was evaluated in 65 patients (23 women and 42 men) who had not received treatment with antiinflammatory drugs in the immediate postoperative weeks. The mean age at the first operation was 65 years, and the median interval between the two arthroplasties was 3 months. Fifty-two patients developed heterotopic ossification after the initial hip arthroplasty.

Sixty-two (11 women and 51 men) of 76 consecutive patients treated between January 1960 and December 1979 with percutaneous pinning, traction, and ambulation in Thomas splints for slipped capital femoral epiphyses (physiolysis colli femoris; PCF) were re-examined radiologically and clinically to evaluate long-term results of an abandoned technique. Median follow-up time was 21 years (range: 8 to 28). The average age at symptom start was 14 years (range: 9 to 17).

The frequency of bilateral physiolysis colli femoris was evaluated in 62 patients. At first admission, 5 patients had a bilateral slipping. Further, 9 patients had slipping diagnosed in the contralateral hip during adolescence 1-3 years after the primary operation.

The effect of enkephalin derivates with different receptor subtype specificity and opioid antagonist naloxone on kallikrein-kinin system was studied in anaesthetized rats exposed to 30% hemorrhage. Hemorrhage by itself caused only a slight activation of KKS. Pretreatment with naloxone induced a significant activation of KKS, which was potentiated by subsequent hemorrhage.

The effect of a new shock-protective agent LPH on parameters of the kallikrein-kinin-system was studied in a standardized endotoxin shock model. Activation of KKS in endotoxin shock was not significantly influenced by LPH. On the other hand, LPH by itself caused activation of KKS.

We used subcapital displacement osteotomy of the fifth metatarsal bone and peg-and-hole fixation to treat a tailor's bunion (bunionette) in forty-four feet (twenty-seven patients). The result was good in 86 per cent, fair in 9 per cent, and poor in 5 per cent. All but one of the patients were satisfied with the result.
