Correlated photon-pair sources are key components for quantum computing, networking, synchronization, and sensing applications. Integrated photonics has enabled chip-scale sources using nonlinear processes, producing high-rate time-energy and polarization entanglement at telecom wavelengths with sub-100 microwatt pump power. Many quantum systems operate in the visible or near-infrared ranges, necessitating visible-telecom entangled-pair sources for connecting remote systems via entanglement swapping and teleportation.

Background: No treatment is available to prevent brain oedema, which can occur after a large hemispheric infarction. Glibenclamide has previously been shown to improve functional outcome and reduce neurological or oedema-related death in patients younger than 70 years who were at risk of brain oedema after an acute ischaemic stroke. We aimed to assess whether intravenous glibenclamide could improve functional outcome at 90 days in patients with large hemispheric infarction.

Dorvilleidae Chamberlin, 1919 is a family of Annelida containing some of the smallest 'polychaetes' species, being poorly studied worldwide, and with little knowledge regarding its diversity and occurrence. Samples obtained in oceanographic campaigns performed in the Southwest Atlantic Ocean (Brazilian coast) revealed a high number of specimens of dorvilleids, adding to our knowledge of the family's biodiversity. A detailed morphological analysis of these organisms has revealed a new genus, , with two new species.

[Palliative neurology].

Anaesthesiologie

November 2024

Palliative medicine represents the holistic multiprofessional treatment of severely and incurably ill people and their relatives, addressing their complex physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs. The central therapeutic goals are the quality of life and alleviation of suffering. In the course of many neurological diseases, high symptom burden, long and variable trajectories and unfavorable prognosis at times create a need for palliative care even at an early stage, which is currently still inadequately met.

Article Synopsis
  • - This systematic review evaluated the effectiveness of platelet-rich-fibrin (PRF) in preventing postoperative bleeding in patients taking anticoagulants or antiplatelets, comparing it with stitches and other hemostatic agents.
  • - Out of 789 studies, 11 met the criteria for inclusion; all showed that PRF was effective for hemostasis, but the diversity in study methods made a meta-analysis unfeasible.
  • - Results suggested PRF is more effective than stitches in promoting hemostasis and beneficial for faster healing and reduced pain, although it didn't perform as well as chitosan dressings for hemostasis duration.

The UV-vis absorbance spectra, molar extinction coefficients and circular dichroism spectra, as well as NMR and high resolution tandem mass spectrometry spectra were determined for two prominent secondary metabolites from cyanobacteria, namely anabaenopeptin A and anabaenopeptin B. The compounds were extracted from the cyanobacterium CBT929 and purified by flash chromatography and HPLC. Exact amounts of isolated compounds were assessed by quantitative H-NMR with internal calibrant ethyl 4-(dimethylamino)benzoate in DMSO‑ at 298 K with a recycle delay (d1) of 120 s.
