Analysis of Neuroradiologic Findings in Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension-A Population-Based Study.

Background: Idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) has been associated with several MRI features. We assessed types of MRI findings and clinical-radiologic correlations in patients with IIH from one hospital system.

Methods: A retrospective chart review of IIH and control patients was conducted.

Composition and Structure of the solid electrolyte interphase on Na-Ion Anodes Revealed by Exo- and Endogenous Dynamic Nuclear Polarization─NMR Spectroscopy.

Sodium ion batteries (SIB) are among the most promising devices for large scale energy storage. Their stable and long-term performance depends on the formation of the solid electrolyte interphase (SEI), a nanosized, heterogeneous and disordered layer, formed due to degradation of the electrolyte at the anode surface. The chemical and structural properties of the SEI control the charge transfer process at the electrode-electrolyte interface, thus, there is great interest in determining these properties for understanding, and ultimately controlling, SEI functionality.

The State-Dependent Channel with a Rate-Limited Cribbing Helper.

The capacity of a memoryless state-dependent channel is derived for a setting in which the encoder is provided with rate-limited assistance from a cribbing helper that observes the state sequence causally and the past channel inputs strictly causally. Said cribbing may increase capacity but not to the level achievable by a message-cognizant helper.

Neoadjuvant BRAF-targeted therapy for ameloblastoma of the mandible: an organ preservation approach.

Background: Ameloblastoma is a rare odontogenic neoplasm frequently located in the mandible. Standard treatment involves radical bone resection and immediate reconstruction, causing functional, aesthetic, and psychological impairments. The BRAF V600E mutation is present in approximately 80% of mandible ameloblastomas, and BRAF inhibitors have demonstrated sustained responses in unresectable cases.

PET-CT underestimates the true pathological extent of disease at lymphadenectomy for melanoma patients after systemic therapy.

Introduction: Modern systemic therapy has revolutionized the treatment of melanoma. Currently, patients with clinically involved lymph nodes require lymphadenectomy with associated morbidities. Positron Emission Tomography - Computed Tomography (PET-CT) has demonstrated accuracy in melanoma detection and response to therapy.

Real world evidence of Lenvatinib + anti PD-1 as an advanced line for metastatic melanoma.

Introduction: Immunotherapy has revolutionized the prognosis of patients with metastatic melanoma. To date, the most active regimen is the combination of ipilimumab + nivolumab (ipi-nivo) achieving a response rate of nearly 60% and a median survival (OS) of 6 years. However, approximately 40% of patients experience primary resistance, while around 50% experience secondary resistance, highlighting the need for an effective second-line treatment option The recently published results on the use of lenvatinib + pembrolizumab in the advanced line setting led to the adoption of this regimen at our institution.

Umbilical Cord Graft for Refractory Neurotrophic Keratopathy.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether an umbilical cord tissue graft (UCG) could promote reepithelialization in refractory cases of neurotrophic keratopathy, which failed traditional treatment modalities including amniotic membrane grafts.

Methods: This retrospective case series included 3 eyes of 3 patients who underwent UCG placement for refractory stage 3 neurotrophic keratopathy. Records were reviewed to evaluate the clinical course including previous treatments, time to UCG dissolution, time to corneal epithelialization, and recurrence of epithelial defects.

Efficacy and toxicity of Ipilimumab-Nivolumab combination therapy in elderly metastatic melanoma patients.

Introduction: Immunotherapy has revolutionized metastatic Melanoma therapy. The most active regimen is combination therapy of Ipilimumab-Nivolumab (Ipi-Nivo) with response rates (RR) of ~60% and median overall survival (OS) of ~6 years. Immune-related adverse events (irAE) are common (~60% develop grade 3-4) and pose a challenge when treating frail patients.

Evaluation of commotio retinae in orbital fractures.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the mechanisms of injury and types of orbital fractures and their relation to concurrent commotio retinae.

Methods: This retrospective study evaluated the records of patients with orbital fractures whose diagnoses had been confirmed by computer tomography between July 2017 and September 2019. Patient demographics, the circumstances of injury, ophthalmic examination results, and radiological findings were tabulated.

Ceftriaxone versus ampicillin for the treatment of community-acquired pneumonia. A propensity matched cohort study.

Objectives: Ceftriaxone is recommended as first-line antibiotic treatment (with the addition of macrolide) for hospitalised adults with community acquired pneumonia (CAP). Narrower-spectrum β-lactam as ampicillin, may be associated with comparable clinical outcomes, with less emergence of resistant pathogens or Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI). We aimed to examine whether ampicillin and ceftriaxone (with the addition of macrolides for both arms) are comparable for the treatment of hospitalized adults due to CAP.

The impact of data quality defects on clinical decision-making in the intensive care unit.

Objective: Poor clinical data quality might affect clinical decision making and patient treatment. This study identifies quality defects in clinical data collected automatically by bedside monitoring devices in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and examines their effect on clinical decisions.

Methods: Real-world data collected from 7688 patients admitted to the general ICU in a tertiary referral hospital over seven years was retrospectively analyzed.

The Arbitrarily Varying Relay Channel.

We study the arbitrarily varying relay channel, which models communication with relaying in the presence of an active adversary. We establish the cutset bound and partial decode-forward bound on the random code capacity. We further determine the random code capacity for special cases.

A double-plating approach to distal femur fracture: A clinical study.

Background: Locked plating is one of the latest innovative options for treating supracondylar femur fractures with relatively low failure rates. Single lateral plating was often found to have a relative higher failure rate. No clinical studies of double-plating distal femur fixation have thus far been reported.

Corona mortis anastomosis: a three-dimensional computerized tomographic angiographic study.

Purpose: We evaluated the corona mortis (CM) anatomy by means of three-dimensional computerized tomography angiographic (CTA).

Cisplatinum nephrotoxicity in oncology therapeutics: retrospective review of patients treated between 2005 and 2012.

Background: Cisplatinum (CP) is associated with acute kidney injury. The aim of this study was to define the spectrum of CP-induced nephrotoxicity in current practice.

Case-diagnosis/treatment: A single-center, retrospective chart review was performed on children who received CP for treatment of a malignancy at the Hassenfeld Children's Center for Blood and Cancer Disorders of NYU Langone Medical Center between 2005 and 2012.

Triggered release of aqueous content from liposome-derived sol-gel nanocapsules.

Liposomes prepared from a mixture of L-alpha-dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine and the PEGilated phospholipid N-(carbonylmethoxypoly(ethylene glycol 2000))-1,2-distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine were used as templates for the production of silica and alkylated silica approximately 100 nm capsules, "liposils", entrapping aqueous solutions of anionic dyes. Triggered release of this content was successfully affected by either low-frequency ultrasound or by microwave treatments. Cryo-TEM was used to follow the formation process of these particles, which are aggregated in a chain-like manner.

Estimation of muscle spindle information rate by pattern matching and the effect of gamma system activity on parallel spindles.

The information transmission properties of ensembles of MSs and the effect of the gamma system on these properties were studied. Three converging lines of research were taken: (1) the development of information theoretic estimation tools, and the formulation of an "operational" interpretation for the information rate; (2) animal experiments in which the mutual information rate was estimated and the effect of the gamma system was quantified; (3) simulation of a muscle spindle model with gamma activation in order to corroborate the results of the animal experiments. The main hypothesis was that the gamma system will enhance information theoretic measures that quantify the quality of the sensory neural channel comprised from an ensemble of primary muscle spindle afferents.

Oligohydramnios, intrauterine growth retardation and fetal death due to umbilical cord torsion.

Intrauterine fetal death was observed in a woman at 35 gestational weeks shortly after she was admitted to hospital due to suspected placental insufficiency expressed by oligohydramnios and fetal growth retardation. The pathologic examination showed umbilical cord torsion and an organized thrombus at the site of the torsion. This findings could imply that both the fetal death and the placental insufficiency were the results of the cord torsion.

The structure of the variable regions of mouse monoclonal antibodies to hepatitis B virus core antigen.

From a panel of monoclonal antibodies (MoAbs) directed against E. coli-derived native and denatured hepatitis B virus (HBV) core antigen we have selected a set of specific MoAbs which recognize different linear antigenic determinants: MoAb C1-5--cl epitope; MoAb 14K8--less immunogenic N-terminal region; and MoAbs 13C9, 10F10 and 14E11, 14G3--the immunodominant region between amino acids 134 and 140. We have applied the polymerase chain reaction technique to clone Ig VH and VL region genes, and appropriate full-length cDNA clones were obtained and characterized by nucleotide sequence analysis.
