Background: The modern multimodal treatment of malignant tumors has increased disease-specific survival and decreased the burden of tumor-associated complications. The main focus of palliative surgery is not based primarily on quantitative success parameters of tumor response but is instead mainly on the question of quality of life.
Aim: The current study was conducted to analyze the clinical and oncological outcomes of palliative patients with soft tissue sarcoma.
Background And Objectives: Excessive preoperative blood orders frequently occur during the preoperative planning of resections of sarcomas. We aimed to develop a prediction score model that would be able to identify a patient cohort in which the cross-matching could be safely evaded.
Patients And Methods: We retrospectively analyzed data of 309 consecutive patients with extra-abdominal soft tissue sarcomas treated between September 2012 and December 2014.
Reported is an 80-year-old patient with septic shock from necrotizing fasciitis secondary to a Vibrio vulnificus (Vv) infection. The patient reports having been swimming in the Baltic Sea after a minor trauma to the left leg. Emergency superficial necrosectomy followed by intensive medical therapy was performed.

This study aimed to assess clinical features and provide a long-term report of the oncological outcome.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed our clinical database for patients with ES of the distal upper extremities.
Background: Angiosarcomas are rare and heterogeneous tumors with poor prognosis. The clinical subtypes are classified depending on the primary site and etiology.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective, monocentric study of 136 patients with localized AS between May 1985 and November 2018.
Background: This novel study compared the use of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha and melphalan-based isolated limb perfusion (TM-ILP) to the standard treatment of locally recurrent soft tissue extremity sarcoma. The aim was to assess whether TM-ILP positively influences the recurrence-free survival of locally recurrent high-grade soft tissue sarcoma (STS) of the extremities.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed our clinical database for patients with STS.
Background: Since 2015/16 the DGPRÄC collects, evaluates and publishes the research activities of academic sections, departments and clinics for plastic surgery at university hospitals in Germany, in order to raise the awareness of plastic surgical research performance.
Materials And Methods: The directors of plastic surgical academic institutions were contacted via the DGPRÄC and asked to report any requested/approved and rejected research applications to public, non-public and industrial funding organizations. Data was collected in our previously established online database: https://docs.
Our retrospective study analysed the long-term results of a conservative limb-preserving surgical strategy in 51 patients with soft-tissue sarcoma of the hand from a single institution. We assessed survival and prognostic factors, including the surgical margins. No transradial amputations were performed.

Recurrence-free and overall survivals were calculated using the Kaplan-Meier method. The function of the operated hand was assessed with the Michigan Hand Questionnaire and compared with the contralateral side.

Applications to public, non-public, or industrial funding organizations were evaluated. At the same time, this paper analyses the number of approved DFG applications in Plastic, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery in the GEPRIS system.

Methods: We retrospectively assessed the relationship between local recurrence-free survival (LRFS), disease-specific survival (DSS), overall survival (OS) and potential prognostic factors in 164 patients who were suitable for surgical treatment in curative intent.
Background: Tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF) and melphalan-based isolated limb perfusion (TM-ILP) is one of the most effective treatment modalities for unresectable soft tissue sarcoma (STS) of the extremities. Liposarcomas (LS) are a large and heterogeneous subgroup of STS with different biological behavior and prognoses. The aim of this study was to evaluate LS and the different subentities with respect to their responsiveness towards TM-ILP.

In addition to the impact factor, research funding also plays a central role in evaluating the academic performance and quality of a researcher, a clinic or a surgical specialty. The scope and quality of research in Plastic Surgery are usually very little known, so that even large funding institutions do not get a full view of research funding in our specialty. Therefore, sometimes traditional structures are not adapted to new needs by the developing younger surgical fields.

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus describes a dysregulation of glucose metabolism due to improper insulin secretion, reduced insulin efficacy or both. It is a well-known fact that diabetic patients are likely to suffer from impaired wound healing, as diabetes strongly affects tissue angiogenesis. Until now, no satisfying in vivo murine model has been established to analyze the dynamics of angiogenesis during diabetic wound healing.

Introduction: Limb-threatening wounds of the upper extremity pose a challenge to the micro vascular surgeon. The aim of this study is to analyze the outcome of free anterolateral thigh flaps for upper extremity soft tissue reconstruction.
Methods: A retrospective review of patients undergoing this procedure from 2005 to 2012 was performed.

Background: The aim of this study was to identify prognostic indicators of survival in patients with locally recurrent soft tissue sarcoma through a long-term follow-up.
Methods: We retrospectively assessed the relationship between post-recurrence survival (PRS) and potential predictive factors in 135 patients who had experienced local recurrence after surgical treatment. The median follow-up time after initial recurrence was 12.
Sarcomas of the hand and wrist are rare malignancies, which should be referred to high-volume comprehensive cancer centres providing multidisciplinary treatment options. The tumour board should propose patient-oriented oncological pathways as well as sophisticated hand and plastic reconstructive procedures. In Addition, isolated limb perfusion with TNF-alpha and melphalan is likely to lead to preoperative tumour shrinkage allowing for R0 resection in sano.

Causative factors are mutilating infections, resection of malignant tumors and trauma, predominantly located at the aerodigestive junction, the urogenital region and the extremities. Three-dimensional tissue constructions are preformed distant to the defect site allowing safe pedicled or microsurgical transfer into the defect.

Voluminous data have been collected and analyzed. However, in hindsight, any achievements made have not been realized in clinical practice in terms of overall survival or quality of life extended.
