Biostimulants contribute to the physiological growth of plants by enhancing the quality characteristics of fruit without harming the environment. In addition, biostimulants applied to plants strengthen nutritional efficiency, abiotic stress tolerance, and fruit biochemical traits. We investigated the effectiveness of specific organic biostimulants.

Splenic Rupture in an Elective Cesarean Section: A Possible Iatrogenic Event.

A rare case of an unexpected iatrogenic splenic rupture during a cesarean section is reported. The trauma was recognized early and treated conservatively without delay; thus, further complications were avoided. A 28-year-old woman with a history of previous cesarean sections was submitted for an elective cesarean section.

Characterization of Semisweet and Sweet Wines from Kos Island Produced Traditionally and Conventionally.

Eight wines, four semisweet rosé and four sweet red, produced on Kos Island in Greece, were analyzed. Wines produced following different winemaking procedures were characterized based on their physicochemical parameters, total phenolic content, antioxidant activity, and chromatic properties. Moreover, their elemental composition was studied with ICP-OES.

Greek Landrace Flours Characteristics and Quality of Dough and Bread.

Besides organic growing, ancient wheats and landraces are attracting the attention of scientists who are reassessing the healthy and dietary properties attributed to them by popular tradition. A total of eleven wheat flours and whole meal samples were analyzed, of which, nine originated from the organic farming of five Greek landraces (one einkorn, one emmer, two durum, and one soft wheat) and a commercial organically grown emmer cultivar. Two commercial conventional flours of 70% and 100% extraction rate were examined for comparison purposes.

Objectives: Mucinous cystadenomas are among the most common benign adnexal masses. The peak incidence of mucinous cystadenoma appears between the third and fifth decades of life, but rare cases in younger and older women have also been reported. Ovarian cystic formations are usually asymptomatic at early stages, until they grow in size and various compression symptoms appear, such as abdominal discomfort, distention, nausea, vomiting, and increased urination.

Drought affects common bean productivity, and the severity of its impact is expected to increase due to climate change. The use of versatile genotypes could contribute to securing future bean production. This study investigates the adaptability of 10 common bean genotypes of indeterminate growth type under water scarcity conditions by measuring agronomic and physiological parameters.

Gastric metastasis from breast cancer presenting as dysphagia.

Gastric metastasis from breast cancer occurs infrequently and causes non-specific symptoms, usually attributed to the underlying disease. Furthermore, endoscopic findings are almost identical to primary gastric cancer, making the immunohistochemical examination of biopsies necessary for diagnosis. We present the case of a 64-year-old woman who was diagnosed with lobular breast cancer 3 years ago and received chemotherapy with evidence of remission.

Jejunal intussusception due to an atypical lipomatous tumor: a rare case report.

Intussusception in adults is rare, and the clinical symptoms of intussusception are subtle, making the diagnosis quite challenging. Gastrointestinal lipomas are rare benign tumors and are essentially adipose growths, most frequently found within the small intestine wall or mesentery. Limited up-to-date evidence exists regarding such lipomas.

Response of Three Greek Populations of (Crop Wild Relative) to Serpentine Soil.

A common garden experiment was established to investigate the effects of serpentine soil on the photosynthetic and biochemical traits of plants from three Greek populations of . We measured photosynthetic and chlorophyll fluorescence parameters, proline content, and nutrient uptake of the above plants growing in serpentine and non-serpentine soil. The photochemical activity of PSII was inhibited in plants growing in the serpentine soil regardless of the population; however, this inhibition was lower in the Aetolia-Acarnania population.

Preliminary Study of Microelements, Phenolics as well as Antioxidant Activity in Local, Homemade Wines from North-East Greece.

The present study is aimed to analyze the composition of microelements in wines prepared by amateur winemakers in Drama region (recognized as Protected Geographical Indication (PGI)), especially the toxic ones, as well as the phenolic content and antioxidant activity of these wines since moderate wine consumption may contribute to health benefits to the consumers. A total of twenty-four wines, comprising sixteen red and eight white, were tested. The micro and macroelements were determined with ICP-OES (Inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry).

Gut Microbiota in Patients with Morbid Obesity Before and After Bariatric Surgery: a Ten-Year Review Study (2009-2019).

The changes in the composition and function of gut microbiota affect the metabolic functions (which are mediated by microbial effects) in patients with obesity, resulting in significant physiological regulation in these patients. Most of the studies emphasize that the Western-style diet (high fat and low vegetable consumption) leads to significant changes in the intestinal microbiome in individuals with metabolic syndrome. A deeper understanding of the profiles of gut microbes will contribute to the development of new therapeutic strategies for the management of metabolic syndrome and other metabolic diseases and related disorders.

Presentation Of Case: We report a case of a blunt abdominal trauma, in a 43 year old male presented in the Emergency Department after a truck vehicle accident. He sustained a chest injury, a pelvic fracture and diffuse abdominal tenderness.

Use of laparoscopic equipment for colonoscopy intraoperatively in case of lack of colonoscope.

In the case where intraoperative endoscopy is necessary and there is no endoscope available in the hospital, there is a solution, the use of available laparoscopic equipment. The technique is simple and without being time consuming. All its needed is a laparoscopic video- camera, and laparoscopic ports.

Dendritic morphology is a key determinant of how individual neurons acquire a unique signal processing profile. The highly branched dendritic structure that originates from the cell body, explores the surrounding 3D space in a fractal-like manner, until it reaches a certain amount of complexity. Its shape undergoes significant alterations under various physiological or neuropathological conditions.

A simulation study on the effects of dendritic morphology on layer V prefrontal pyramidal cell firing behavior.

Pyramidal cells, the most abundant neurons in neocortex, exhibit significant structural variability across different brain areas and layers in different species. Moreover, in response to a somatic step current, these cells display a range of firing behaviors, the most common being (1) repetitive action potentials (Regular Spiking-RS), and (2) an initial cluster of 2-5 action potentials with short interspike interval (ISIs) followed by single spikes (Intrinsic Bursting-IB). A correlation between firing behavior and dendritic morphology has recently been reported.
