Osteochondroma (OC) is a common bone tumour that rarely affects the mandibular condylar process. This pathology can show typical clinical features, such as facial asymmetry, deviation of the chin and dental inferior midline, changes in condylar morphology and malocclusion with an increased posterior mandibular vertical height. The management of condylar OC is a debated topic among surgeons.

The authors present two cases of mouth floor hemorrhage consequences of implant placement within the atrophic anterior mandible. In one patient, the implant placement was associated with the guided bone regeneration (GBR) technique. This serious complication has been widely described in the literature, especially in the anterior mandible area.

Article Synopsis
  • A postsurgical ciliated cyst (PSCC) is a type of cyst that typically forms in the maxilla (upper jaw) after surgical or traumatic events, usually diagnosed in patients aged 40-50 years.
  • A study examined three cases of PSCC in two women (ages 49 and 55) and one man (age 39), with symptoms generally being mild and with some cases appearing 10-15 years post-surgery or trauma.
  • Histopathological analysis confirmed the diagnosis, showing cyst walls composed of fibrous tissue and ciliated epithelium, emphasizing that PSCC should be considered in the diagnosis of jaw cysts, especially for those with a surgical history in the maxilla.

Native breed conservation is an important component of poultry biodiversity. The aim of this work is to describe different steps that lead to donor selection for the implementation of the Italian Semen Cryobank of Autochthonous Chicken and Turkey Breeds. The variability within and between breeds was evaluated, and the stored semen reproductive capacity was in vivo tested using artificial insemination.

Both the role and the importance of magnesium in clinical practice have grown considerably in recent years. Emerging evidence suggests an association between loss of magnesium homeostasis and increased mortality in the critical care setting. The underlying mechanism is still unclear, but an increasing number of in vivo and in vitro studies on magnesium's immunomodulating capabilities may shed some light on the matter.

This article includes supporting data regarding the research article entitled "Concentration dependent effect of dimethylacetamide and N-methylacetamide on the quality and fertility of cryopreserved chicken semen" (Zaniboni et al., 2022). The effect of two permeant-cryoprotectants (CPA), dimethylacetamide (DMA) and N-methylacetamide (NMA) used at different concentrations (0, 2, 4 and 6%) on the quality of post thaw rooster semen was assessed.

This study aims to investigate the effect of whole-body vibration along different axes on the response time (RT) of standing subjects during a customised psychomotor vigilance task (PVT). Twenty-five subjects were exposed to harmonic vibration with amplitude of 0.7 m/s RMS and frequencies between 1.

The aim of this study was to compare the effect of two permeant-cryoprotectants, dimethylacetamide (DMA) and N-methylacetamide (NMA) used at different concentrations (0%, 2%, 4%, 6%) on the quality and fertility of post-thaw rooster semen. Ejaculates were processed in 7 treatments: Lake pre-freezing+0.1 M trehalose (LPF-T) (control treatment), LPF-T+2% DMA, LPF-T+4% DMA, LPF-T+6% DMA, LPF-T+2% NMA, LPF-T+4% NMA, LPF-T+6% NMA.

In order to preserve endangered psittacine species, more basic and applied research in reproductive biology is required. Assisted reproductive technologies such as artificial insemination play an important role in parrots species conservation programs to overcome the problem of infertile eggs and male infertility. The aim of this study was to define an effective protocol in order to standardize the sperm quality evaluation in psittacines, studying as model species.

  • The study examined the variability in physical characteristics of two Italian turkey breeds: Brianzolo (BRZ) and Nero d'Italia (NIT) through various measurements and indexes.
  • A total of 92 turkeys were analyzed, revealing that NIT was heavier and had longer body lengths compared to BRZ, along with observable sexual dimorphism where males were generally larger than females.
  • The research highlights significant differences in various morphometric and colorimetric traits, aiming to aid in the preservation and genetic improvement of these heritage breeds at risk of extinction.

Article Synopsis
  • Italian autochthonous turkey breeds are crucial for genetic biodiversity, and the study aimed to explore their genomic diversity using methods like run of homozygosity (ROH) and principal component analysis.
  • The research focused on seven specific heritage turkey breeds, identifying unique ROH_islands that contain significant genes related to reproduction efficiency.
  • Findings indicated that while most breeds are distinct, the Roma breed is a mixture of several populations, highlighting previously unknown genetic variation in these turkey breeds.

Background: Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is a hereditary heterogeneous group of mechanobullous disorders caused by mutations in several structural skin proteins observed in both humans and animals. In this work, we report the incidence and the genetic trend of the junctional epidermolysis bullosa (JEB), a major type of EB, in the Italian German Shorthaired Pointer (GSPs) population in a 10 years span.

Methods: In this study, we monitored the genetic trend of JEB in the Italian population of the GSPs from 2009 to 2018 in 750 animals.

Background: Vertical whole-body vibration (vWBV) during work, recreation, and transportation can have detrimental effects on physical and mental health. Studies have shown that lateral vibration at low frequencies (<3 Hz) can result in changes to spatiotemporal gait parameters. There are few studies which explore spatiotemporal gait changes due to vertical vibration at higher frequencies (> 3 Hz).

Food function is nowadays not merely limited to nourishment supplying; consumers' interest is oriented to food healthiness and nutritional value, animal welfare, environmental impact of animal productions, and products' traceability. The objective of the present work is to compare physical parameters and fatty acids profiles of market eggs produced from hens housed in four different systems. In addition, the effects of the presence of an outdoor space allowance (IND = no outdoor space allowance, OUT = outdoor space allowance) on the same parameters have been investigated.

Unlabelled: In the late stages of terrestrial planet formation, pairwise collisions between planetary-sized bodies act as the fundamental agent of planet growth. These collisions can lead to either growth or disruption of the bodies involved and are largely responsible for shaping the final characteristics of the planets. Despite their critical role in planet formation, an accurate treatment of collisions has yet to be realized.

Background: Cockatoo reproduction in captivity supplies a powerful tool to limit the economic motivation to capture endangered species from the wild; nevertheless, scientific data about reproductive parameters in cockatoos are very rare. The aim of the present work was to investigate the reproductive performance of different species of the genus reared in the same facility to evaluate adaptability to captive breeding and to identify the main problems in ex situ conservation of some cockatoo species.

Methods: Data of 28 eggs from 19 reproductive pairs from 9 cockatoo species were analysed.

Whole-Body Vibration (WBV) is an occupational hazard affecting employees working with transportation, construction or heavy machinery. To minimize vibration-induced pathologies, ISO identified WBV exposure limits based on vibration transmissibility and apparent mass studies. The ISO guidelines do not account for variations in posture or movement.

The European potential for renewable electricity is sufficient to enable fully renewable supply on different scales, from self-sufficient, subnational regions to an interconnected continent. We not only show that a continental-scale system is the cheapest, but also that systems on the national scale and below are possible at cost penalties of 20% or less. Transmission is key to low cost, but it is not necessary to vastly expand the transmission system.
