Article Synopsis
  • Epidemiological studies link cigarette smoking with chronic pancreatitis (CP), and this research aims to explore whether cigarette smoking increases K-Ras expression and contributes to CP development in mice.
  • Mice were exposed to cigarette smoke and underwent repeated treatments to simulate acute pancreatitis, with their pancreatic damage assessed through various histological techniques.
  • Findings show that while CS and cerulein alone did not cause chronic damage, their combination led to mild CP symptoms and increased expression of K-Ras and NF-κB in the pancreas.

Purpose: Minimal hepatic encephalopathy (MHE) is an important complication of chronic liver disease (CLD); however, MHE burden in patients with primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) has not been determined yet. Therefore, our study aimed to assess the prevalence of MHE in a typical cohort of middle-aged, patients with PBC suspicion of liver fibrosis and to investigate the relationship between MHE, basic laboratory tests and the stage of liver fibrosis.

Patients And Methods: Fifty-one patients (38 with PBC and 13 controls), were prospectively enrolled.
