[Effect of a water-pipe network on the sensory quality of drinking water].

Object of studies was aimed at determining the effect of a water-pipe system on the sensory quality of drinking water originating from various intakes. The aim was to be achieved through analyses of the sensory quality (odor and flavor) of drinking water originating from various reception points within the water-pipe system. Based on the analyses carried out in the research, it may be stated that, transport of water through the water-pipe system in Olsztyn in the winter season does not affect deterioration of odor or flavor of water supplied to consumers.

[Content of nitrates (V) and nitrites (III) in some vegetables grown in the region of Warmia and Mazury].

The aim of this paper was to determine the concentration of nitrates (V) and nitrites (III) in some vegetables originating from producers from the province of Warmia and Mazury and in commercial samples provided by a plant producing frozen vegetables situated in the region. Nitrates and nitrites were measured using the spectrometric method according to the methodology described in the Polish Standard PN-92/A-75112. The analyzed vegetables had small amounts of the examined compounds, which were considerably lower than those reported by other authors.

[A case of brain xanthogranuloma, that developed during bipolar affective disorder].

The paper describes the case of a 49 year old woman suffering from bipolar affective disorder, who additionally had a brain xanthogranuloma tumour. The symptoms that occurred additionally to affective disorder symptoms were loss of memory, with some events forgotten completely, vertigo and deteriorated visual accommodation. The ophthalmology examination could not explain the worsening accommodation.

[Levels of polychlorinated biphenyls in human milk in dependent on selected factors].

The contents of polychlorinated biphenyls in human milk were determined. The PCB levels in human milk were determined in relation to factors such as: age and weight of women, birthweight of the baby, smoking, period of breast-feeding (3-5 days, 2-4 weeks, 6-8 month) and seasons of the year. It was found that level of PCB in human milk have been decreasing during lactation.
