Despite the increasing volume of revision total hip arthroplasty (THA) being performed in the United States, there are few studies reporting mid-term clinical and radiographic outcomes of modular fully porous-coated femoral stems. We retrospectively studied a consecutive series of patients who underwent revision THA with a modular extensively porous-coated femoral component at a single institution and by a single surgeon. The final study group included 54 hips (52 patients) followed for an average of 84 months.

From our institutional database, we identified 78 patients (80 hips) who underwent revision total hip arthroplasty and collected follow-up data. Patients with moderate or severe pain and those with limited walking ability reported significantly lower satisfaction scores.

Unlabelled: Unexplained pain after hip arthroplasty is frustrating for patients and surgeons. We describe the use of hip arthroscopy in management of the painful hip arthroplasty, critically evaluate the outcomes of these patients, and refine indications for hip arthroscopy in this setting. We retrospectively reviewed 14 patients (16 hips) who underwent hip arthroscopy after joint replacement.

Transfusion requirements, operative complications, functional recovery, and assistance needed for transfers from supine to sit, sit to stand, and bed to chair positions were analyzed at the first physical therapy. Compared with others, morbidly obese patients (BMI > or = 40 kg/m2) had significantly longer mean operative time and higher mean intraoperative blood loss (P<.

Purpose: The homeobox genes Pax6 and Chx10 are diffusely expressed in proliferating, undifferentiated retina neuroepithelial cells. Distinct, topographically specific expression patterns emerge, however, as postmitotic cells become organized into layers. The hypothesis that the product of each gene may be necessary for the differentiation of particular nonphotoreceptor neuron subsets and that their absence may be required for progenitor cells to differentiate as photoreceptors was tested in this study.

This procedure achieved accurate and reproducible implantation, regardless of patient habitus.
