Background: Occlusal splints can protect teeth during bruxism, preventing tooth wear, as well as during sports activities, shielding them from impacts.

Objectives: To verify the influence of thermal cycles and disinfection on the roughness, microhardness and color of polyethylene terephthalate glycol/thermoplastic polyurethane (PETG/TPU) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA).

Material And Methods: Thirty-six PETG/TPU samples and 36 PMMA samples were prepared (ø10 mm × 3 mm).

The aim of this study was to compare PETG/TPU (polyethylene terephthalate glycol/thermoplastic polyurethane) with PETG (polyethylene terephthalate glycol), based on color stability and microhardness. Sixty circular specimens (10 mm in diameter × 3 mm thick) were fabricated (30 PETG/TPU and 30 PETG). The specimens in both groups were submitted to 2000 thermal cycles in alternating baths of 60 seconds at 5°C ± 1°C and 55°C ± 1°C.

This clinical report describes the ocular rehabilitation of a child, initially using an acrylic expander and subsequently the conventional prosthesis. A two-month-old anophthalmic female patient was referred to Araçatuba Dental School, for rehabilitation with ocular prosthesis. The treatment chosen was the manufacturing of expander prostheses changed periodically until the socket reached an adequate size, so that a definitive ocular prosthesis could be installed.

Objective: The aims of this study were to examine the trans- and postoperative systemic characteristics of patients undergoing dental implant surgery and to investigate the relationship between pre- and post- surgery anxiety levels.

Material And Methods: Thirty-nine patients were analyzed in 3 call centers to determine anxiety levels, pain levels, and preoperative and postoperative histories using the State-Trait (STAI) questionnaire.

Results: A total of 93 dental implants were installed, with a success rate of 100%.

This study investigated the effects of the ocular prosthesis fabrication technique and the paint on the color stability of the artificial iris button before and after polymerization of the colorless resin. Sixty samples simulating artificial eyes were made, including 30 samples with blue- and 30 samples with sepia-colored artificial irises. Ten samples were made by each of three techniques (i.

Introduction: The aim of this paper was to present a rehabilitation of a patient with a dynamic universal castable long abutment (UCLA) for a single tilted implant in the anterior maxillary area.

Presentation Of Case: A 57-year-old male patient attended the dentistry college clinic complaining of a vertical fracture of a residual root of the dental element 22. The tooth extraction was indicated for the implant installation.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the quality of life and satisfaction of patients wearing implant-supported fixed partial dentures.

Materials & Methods: A total of 106 patients were selected and submitted to clinical examination and collection of the demographic data for evaluation of the implant-supported fixed dentures conditions. All participants agreed to answer to the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-EDENT) questionnaire and another questionnaire about satisfaction with the implant-supported prostheses.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of thermal cycling and disinfection on the microhardness of acrylic resins denture base. Four different brands of acrylic resins were evaluated: Onda Cryl, QC 20, Classico and Lucitone. Each brand of acrylic resin was divided into four groups (n = 7) according to the disinfection method (microwave, Efferdent, 4% chlorhexidine and 1% hypochlorite).

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the stress distribution in mandibular free-end removable partial dentures (RPD) associated with FPD in the abutment teeth considering different inclinations of the residual ridge: (1) horizontal and (2) distal descending ridges and two designs of free-end RPD with different attachment systems were tested: (1) clasp and (2) system ERA.

Methods: Axial loads (100 N) were applied on the teeth of the RPD. The images were recorded and the stress distribution was evaluated through photoelastic fringes.

Background: Amputations affect both the physical and the psychological aspects of an individual, causing significant impact on self-esteem. The main causes of finger amputations are work-related accidents with dangerous machinery, road traffic accidents, and animal bites, as well as systemic diseases such as diabetes. This report aims to describe a simple technique for fabrication of implant-retained finger prosthesis with a modified base of the retention system.

The objective of the study was to report the prevention of facial reinjury of a volleyball player using a custom-made protective facial shield. A custom-made protective partial facial shield was fabricated using polymethylmethacrylate and was fitted with a soft lining material to provide additional comfort and protection to the injured area. Facial protection provides greater security against possible facial injuries and allows injured areas to recover during sports practice.

Aim: The aim of this study is to present a clinical case in which an occlusal matrix device was used in a patient who needed to restore a posterior tooth.

Material And Methods: A direct duplicate occlusal appliance was used (biteperf) in a patient who needed an occlusal restoration in two posterior teeth.

Results: Using the matrix helps having fast and accurate reproduction of the original anatomical details of the occlusal surface.

Complete and partial loss of maxillary bone may jeopardize oral physiology and generate complications as oral-sinus-nasal communication. Palatal obturator prostheses are a treatment alternative for rehabilitation of these patients. The aim of this study was to assess stress distribution, through photoelasticity, on palatal obturator prostheses associated with different attachment systems (o'ring, bar clip, and o'ring/bar clip) of implants and submitted to relining.

The matching of the aesthetic, functional, and psychosocial results of a facial deformity may produce devastating effects in its carriers, especially if the lesion is extensive or the treatment is aggressive. Because of this, the objective of the present article was to evaluate patient's satisfaction rating after surgical facial reconstruction or rehabilitation with oral and maxillofacial prosthesis, by means of reviewing the literature.

The use of craniofacial implants is an effective treatment for patients with deformities, burns, and cancer sequelae. The sites with the most successful implants are the auricular, nasal, and orbital regions. Furthermore, other factors can affect the implant longevity such as irradiated area, surgical technique, bone quality and quantity, macrostructure and microstructure of the implant, maintenance, and systemic factors.

Bisphosphonates are pharmacologic compounds characterized by high tropism to bone tissue. They affect bone metabolism by inhibition of osteoclast recruitment, proliferation, differentiation, and function. Because they can reduce bone resorption, bisphosphonates are used mainly for the treatment of osteometabolic conditions.

One of the concerns after a major trauma to the orbit is to be rebuilt. This can be achieved with care in management of orbital reconstruction, techniques, types of materials, and osseointegrated implants; it allows satisfactory aesthetic recuperation and well-being, whereas psychological therapy allows for patients' reinsertion in social and family environment to make them feel happier and safer.

Cancer is regarded as the abnormal cellular multiplication; it is not controlled by the organism; and its cells present a differentiated DNA. Initially, the disease does not show clinical signs, but it can be diagnosed by laboratorial examinations. When tumors are present in the maxillofacial area, they can entail the loss of these area organs, which become responsible for the carrier's social environment exclusion.

Many studies on defects caused by trauma, infection, cancer, or congenital are reported in the literature; in nasal reconstructions, contradictions and distinct techniques exist that can be argued. Using the literature, we observe these distinct techniques that can be surgery or in surgery to reestablish and to integrate the patient with satisfaction in the society.

Osseointegration was an innovative treatment in dentistry during the last 3 decades. The success of osseointegration is related to factors such as material biocompatibility, adequate quality of bone tissue that allows implantation, surgical technique, and macrostructure and microstructure of implant. The osseointegrated implants are successfully applied in dental clinic including oral and facial rehabilitations mainly for patients submitted to mutilating surgeries.
