Distributed ledger technologies have opened up a wealth of fine-grained transaction data from cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum. This allows research into problems like anomaly detection, anti-money laundering, pattern mining and activity clustering (where data from traditional currencies is rarely available). The formalism of temporal networks offers a natural way of representing this data and offers access to a wealth of metrics and models.

However, a suitable animal model for the investigation of the interplay between γ-herpesvirus and host cells in B cell pathogenesis is currently lacking. Here, we present a novel in vivo model enabling the analysis of genetically modified viruses in combination with genetically modified GC B cells.

The function of M12 and M13 has not been investigated so far. Therefore, we constructed and analysed recombinant MHV-68 with mutations in either M12, M13 or M12/M13.

Yet we have limited understanding of whether applying the Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) criteria without an assessment of muscle mass affects the ability to predict adverse outcomes. This study used machine learning to determine which combinations of GLIM phenotypic and etiologic criteria are most important for the prediction of 30-day mortality and unplanned admission using combinations including and excluding low muscle mass.

Using mammalian cell proteomes, we established a facile one-pot sample preparation protocol based on protein aggregation on magnetic beads and intact proteoform elution using 40 % formic acid. Performed on a digital microfluidics device, the workflow enabled sensitive analyses of single Caenorhabditis elegans nematodes, thereby increasing the number of proteoform identifications compared to in-tube sample preparation by 46 %.

This study investigated interrelationships between nutritional intake and clinical outcomes in hospitalised adult oncology patients.
Methods: Estimated nutrition intake data were obtained from patients admitted to a 117-bed tertiary cancer centre during May-July 2022.
Background: Poor food intake is an independent risk factor for malnutrition in oncology patients, and achieving adequate nutrition is essential for optimal clinical and health outcomes. This review investigated the interrelationships between dietary intakes, hospital readmissions and length of stay in hospitalised adult oncology patients.
Methodology: Three databases, MEDLINE, Web of Science and PubMed were searched for relevant publications from January 2000 to the end of August 2022.
Background: Perioperative nutrition support is recommended for patients undergoing upper gastrointestinal (UGI) cancer surgery; however, limited evidence exists regarding implementation of a nutrition care pathway in clinical practice. The aims of this pilot study were to determine whether implementation of a standardised perioperative nutrition pathway for patients undergoing UGI cancer surgery improves access to dietetics care, as well as to evaluate study feasibility, fidelity, resource requirements and effect on clinical outcomes.
Methods: Patients with newly diagnosed UGI cancer from four major metropolitan hospitals in Melbourne, planned for curative intent surgery, were included in the prospective pilot study (n = 35), with historical controls (n = 35) as standard care.
Background & Aims: The Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) criteria require validation in various clinical populations. This study determined the prevalence of malnutrition in people with cancer using all possible diagnostic combinations of GLIM etiologic and phenotypic criteria and determined the combinations that best predicted mortality and unplanned hospital admission within 30 days.
Methods: The GLIM criteria were applied, in a cohort of participants from two cancer malnutrition point prevalence studies (N = 2801), using 21 combinations of the phenotypic (≥5% unintentional weight loss, body mass index [BMI], subjective assessment of muscle stores [from PG-SGA]) and etiologic (reduced food intake, inflammation [using metastatic disease as a proxy]) criteria.
Background: Implementation studies of complex interventions such as nutrition care pathways are important to health services research, as they support translation of research into practice. There is limited research regarding implementation of a nutrition care pathway in an upper gastrointestinal (UGI) cancer population. The aim of this study was to comprehensively evaluate the implementation process of a perioperative nutrition care pathway in UGI cancer surgery using The Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR).

This study aimed to investigate and compare the prevalence of malnutrition using the GLIM, European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN) and International Statistical Classification of Diseases version 10 (ICD-10) criteria; compare the level of agreement between these criteria; and identify the predictive validity of each set of criteria with respect to 30-day outcomes in a large cancer cohort. GLIM, ESPEN and ICD-10 were applied to determine the prevalence of malnutrition in 2794 participants from two cancer malnutrition point prevalence studies.

Disturbed flow with lower average shear stress decreases eNOS transcription, which leads to the development of atherosclerosis, especially at bifurcations and curvatures of arteries. This prototypic arterial EC gene contains 2 distinct flow-responsive cis-DNA elements in the promoter, the shear stress response element (SSRE) and the KLF (Krüppel-like factor) element.

These issues can produce spurious results leading to erroneous conclusions. A superior method to protein normalization using housekeeping proteins is Total Protein Normalization, a method now recognized as the gold standard for quantitative westerns.

However, variation in malnutrition diagnostic criteria has made translation of the most effective interventions into practice challenging. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of malnutrition in a HNC population according to the Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) criteria and assess inter-rater reliability and predictive validity.

This study reports on the development, implementation and evaluation of an evidence-based nutrition care pathway for lower gastrointestinal and pelvic cancer patients. A retrospective cohort study of 40 surgical lower gastrointestinal and pelvic cancer patients pre- and post-implementation of the pathway was conducted.

This study aimed to determine the awareness, perceptions and practices of Australian oncology clinicians regarding malnutrition and sarcopenia in people with cancer.
Methods: A national cross-sectional survey of Australian cancer clinicians was undertaken between November 2018 and January 2019.
Aim: The number of advanced practice roles in the Australian health-care system is growing alongside contemporary health-care reforms. The present study aimed to evaluate the impact of introducing novel advanced practice dietitian roles in gastrostomy tube (g-tube) management and develop a competency framework for progressing opportunities in dietetics practice and policy.
Methods: A questionnaire was distributed to service lead dietitians at six participating health-care networks at the completion of a dedicated advanced practice funding grant, and at 12-month follow up.
We show that latently gammaherpesvirus-infected B cells are present in the thymus. This could result in a functional T-cell tolerance against certain viral epitopes. It is conceivable that also antigens from other viruses or pathogens may be conveyed to the thymus for their immune evasion.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a devastating interstitial lung disease, characterized by damage of lung epithelial cells, excessive deposition of extracellular matrix in the lung interstitium, and enhanced activation and proliferation of fibroblasts. S100a4, also termed FSP-1 (fibroblast-specific protein-1), was previously considered as a marker of fibroblasts but recent findings in renal and liver fibrosis indicated that M2 macrophages are an important cellular source of S100a4. Thus, we hypothesized that also in pulmonary fibrosis, M2 macrophages produce and secrete S100a4, and that secreted S100a4 induces the proliferation and activation of fibroblasts.

Like all herpesviruses, they show two stages in their life cycle: lytic replication and latency. During latency, hardly any viral proteins are expressed to avoid recognition by the immune system.
