Catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (CPVT) is an arrhythmogenic disorder characterized by episodes of polymorphic ventricular tachycardia. Clinically, patients who have CPVT present with juvenile sudden death or stress-induced syncope. We present a case of an 18-year-old girl with CPVT resistant to traditional pharmacotherapies.

Background: Evidence-based guidelines for cardiac sarcoidosis (CS) regarding use of second- and third-line agents, treatment duration, surveillance and prognostic factors are lacking.

Objective: To analyze the clinical presentation, diagnostics, treatment, monitoring and clinical outcomes in a Norwegian cohort.

Methods: Using discharge diagnoses between 2017 through 2020 from a large tertiary center, we identified 52 patients with CS.

Article Synopsis
  • Transvenous lead extraction (TLE) is a complex procedure with risks, and this study reviews TLE methods and results over a 24-year period at a single center.
  • The authors performed 1780 procedures attempting to extract 2964 leads, mainly using a single sheath technique, and achieved high clinical success rates (97.7%).
  • The study found a low complication rate, with only 1 death directly linked to the procedure and no reported caval tears, highlighting the safety and effectiveness of their techniques when performed by experienced operators.

Article Synopsis
  • The REGAIN trial found that spinal and general anesthesia provide similar outcomes regarding ambulation and survival after hip fracture surgery.
  • In a secondary analysis, researchers compared pain levels, analgesic use, and patient satisfaction between the two anesthesia types.
  • Results indicated that spinal anesthesia led to more severe pain in the first 24 hours post-surgery and higher prescription analgesic use at 60 days, while patient satisfaction remained comparable across both groups.

CCN1/CYR61 promotes angiogenesis, tumor growth and chemoresistance by binding to its integrin receptor αβ in endothelial and breast cancer (BC) cells. CCN1 controls also tissue regeneration by engaging its integrin receptor αβ to induce fibroblast senescence. Here, we explored if the ability of CCN1 to drive an endocrine resistance phenotype in estrogen receptor-positive BC cells relies on interactions with either αβ or αβ.

Background: Stigma and limited mental health literacy impede adolescents getting the help they need for depressive symptoms. A serious game coupled with a classroom session led by lived experience workers (LEWs) might help to overcome these barriers. The school-based Strong Teens and Resilient Minds (STORM) preventive program employed this strategy and offered a serious game, Moving Stories.

Arrhythmic mitral valve prolapse syndrome is associated with a high risk of death. A 60-year-old man with arrhythmic mitral valve prolapse syndrome was monitored with an implantable loop recorder. Nine months later dyspnea developed, followed by cardiac arrest.

This paper presents evidence that the relevance of incentives to co-produce depends on the social-psychological context under which actors operate. We propose that context (including community attachment, trust in local authorities, ethnic diversity, unemployment level, and population density) moderates effect of incentives (utility of the co-produced service, monetary and reputational rewards, and social norms). Through a survey experiment carried out in 593 urban locations across 13 countries, we show that willingness to co-produce increases with community attachment and decreases with ethnic diversity of the local area.

The behavioral aspect of cybersecurity has gained more attention in recent years. By their actions, people can improve the security of their devices and organizations, but also hinder the successful implementation of security in these areas. As awareness campaigns where information is merely distributed are not effective, we designed a cybersecurity serious game applicable for cybersecurity training.

Aims: To develop a suite of quality indicators (QIs) for the evaluation of the care and outcomes for adults undergoing cardiac pacing.

Methods And Results: Under the auspice of the Clinical Practice Guideline Quality Indicator Committee of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), the Working Group for cardiac pacing QIs was formed. The Group comprised Task Force members of the 2021 ESC Clinical Practice Guidelines on Cardiac Pacing and Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy, members of the European Heart Rhythm Association, international cardiac device experts, and patient representatives.

Background: Most cases of legionellosis in Norway are acquired outside the country. This was a domestic case from an unusual source.

Case Presentation: A man in his thirties was admitted with pneumonia early in the summer.

Background: Patients with wire and catheter refractory venous occlusion are traditionally referred for pectoral transvenous lead extraction (TLE) to obtain venous access. TLE causes 1-2 mm circumferential mechanical or laser destruction of tissue surrounding the lead(s). This not only exposes the patient to the risk of major complications but also can damage nontargeted leads.

Background: Coronary sinus (CS) ostial atresia/abnormalities prevent access to the CS from the right atrium (RA) for left ventricular (LV) lead implantation. Some patients with CS ostial abnormalities also have a small persistent left superior vena cava (sPLSVC).

Objective: The purpose of this study was to describe CS ostial abnormalities and sPLSVC as an opportunity for LV lead implantation and unrecognized source of stroke.

Progesterone receptor (PR) isoforms can drive unique phenotypes in luminal breast cancer (BC). Here, we hypothesized that PR-B and PR-A isoforms differentially modify the cross-talk between prolactin and fatty acid synthase (FASN) in BC. We profiled the responsiveness of the FASN gene promoter to prolactin in T47D BC cells constitutively expressing PR-A and PR-B, in the PR-null variant T47D-Y cell line, and in PR-null T47D-Y cells engineered to stably re-express PR-A (T47D-YA) or PR-B (T47D-YB).

Sustained HER2/HER3 signaling due to the overproduction of the HER3 ligand heregulin (HRG) is proposed as a key contributor to endocrine resistance in estrogen receptor-positive (ER+) breast cancer. The molecular mechanisms linking HER2 transactivation by HRG-bound HER3 to the acquisition of a hormone-independent phenotype in ER+ breast cancer is, however, largely unknown. Here, we explored the possibility that autocrine HRG signaling drives cytokine-related endocrine resistance in ER+ breast cancer cells.

Background: It has been hypothesised that the ratio of length between the second and fourth fingers (2D:4D), commonly employed as an indicator of foetal sex hormone exposure, may be positively correlated between heterosexual partners.

Aims: As previous evidence has been conflicting, our study aimed to determine whether intra-couple correlations exist for digit ratio variables, and if so, to estimate the size and direction of these effects.

Study Design: We present a preregistered (osf.
