Background: The plantarflexor muscles are important during walking. However, walking is not the only task that is used during daily life, and not much is known about the role of the plantarflexor muscles during other dynamic tasks. Insight into the demand of the plantarflexor muscles during different dynamic tasks might help to establish training or functional assessment for patients who experience plantarflexor weakness.

Exploring mothers' perspectives on the early mother-infant relationship to inform midwifery practice: A qualitative study.

Background: The mother-infant relationship plays a crucial role in individual and community health. The nature of the mother-infant relationship can influence the social and emotional development of the infant, impacting their lifelong health. Midwives are key in providing health promotion for women and babies and are ideally placed to support women during the early development of the mother-infant relationship.

Antenatal education incorporating complementary medicine techniques for labour and birth to reduce the rates of epidural in primiparous women: A randomised control trial.

Problem: Globally medical management of labour and birth has significantly increased, with epidurals attributed to the cascade of interventions.

Background: There are few randomised control trials that evaluate the effectiveness of antenatal education programs. A previous trial at two Australian hospitals found an antenatal program of integrative complementary therapies significantly reduced rates of interventions for low-risk primiparous women.

Comparing the effectiveness of a breastfeeding arm sling with the normal cross-cradle hold position: A quasi-experimental study in Thailand.

Introduction: In Thailand, the exclusive breastfeeding rate remains low at 14% in 2019, despite the World Health Organization's recommendation of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months. Many mothers experience challenges such as lack of confidence, fatigue, and discomfort while breastfeeding. To address these issues, the novel arm sling innovation device was developed to provide support during breastfeeding.

Wearable sensor systems measure differences in knee laxity between healthy and affected knees during dynamic exercise activities: A systematic review.

Purpose: Knee laxity can be experienced as knee instability which may lead to a limitation in the activity of patients. Current methods to determine knee instability are performed in a static setting, which does not always correlate with dynamic knee laxity during activities. Wearables might be able to measure knee laxity in a dynamic setting and could be of added value in the diagnosis and treatment of excessive knee laxity.

A mixed methods evaluation of the breastfeeding memory aide CHINS.

Breastfeeding rates remain persistently low in the United Kingdom (UK) despite wide-scale rollout of UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative training and accreditation. More must be done to ensure breastfeeding practitioners can provide effective support. The memory aide CHINS (Close, Head free, In-line, Nose to Nipple and Sustainable) could help practitioners remember, recall, and apply breastfeeding theory in practice and this paper presents a UK evaluation of its impact.

Health-related Quality of Life and Problem Behavior After GH Cessation in Adults Born Small for Gestational Age: A 12-Year Follow-up Study.

Context: Long-term data regarding health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and problem behavior in adults born small for gestational age (SGA) who were treated with GH during childhood are lacking.

Objective: To investigate longitudinal changes in HRQoL and problem behavior in adults born SGA during 12 years after cessation of childhood GH treatment (SGA-GH) and compare these with 3 control groups at age around 30 years.

Participants: One hundred seventy-six SGA-GH adults and 3 untreated age-matched control groups: 50 born SGA with short stature (SGA-S), 77 born SGA with spontaneous catch-up growth to normal height (SGA-CU), and 99 born appropriate-for-gestational-age with normal height (AGA).

However, contemporary research highlights that workplace bullying, and violence is often inflicted upon midwifery students. It has been suggested that grazing horses could be used as a credible tool for landscape conservation which would, at the same time, improve horse welfare as opposed to conventional housing. Purpose: Graft failure rates after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) in children and adolescents are higher compared to adults. Anterolateral augmentation procedures have recently generated increased focus regarding their ability to reduce graft failure rates. Concerns in skeletally immatures are potential growth disturbances and overconstraint after anterolateral augmentation.

Effect of Behavioral Activation for Women with Postnatal Depression: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Evidence shows that behavioral activation (BA), a simple form of psychological therapy, is as effective as the more complex psychological therapy-cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)-in treating general depression. However, it remains unclear whether BA when compared with treatment-as-usual (TAU) has greater contributions in reducing postnatal depression. This systematic review compared the effect of BA versus TAU in reducing depression symptoms among postnatal women.

Clinical Characteristics of Pathogenic ACAN Variants and 3-Year Response to Growth Hormone Treatment: Real-World Data.

Introduction: Heterozygous variants in the ACAN gene may underlie disproportionate short stature with characteristically accelerated bone age (BA) maturation and/or early-onset osteoarthritis (OA).

Methods: The objective of this study was to describe phenotype, analyze genotype-phenotype correlations, and assess the response of growth hormone (GH) treatment in children with a heterozygous ACAN variant. Thirty-six subjects (23 boys, 13 girls) with ACAN deficiency and treated for ≥1 year with GH were identified in the Dutch National Registry of GH treatment in children.

Background: Clubfoot patients show good-to-excellent foot correction after the Ponseti method. Nevertheless, underlying functional problems that limit motor abilities such as one-leg-standing and one-leg-hopping still persist. These restrictions have been proposed to arise due to problems with maintaining balance and the limited force-generating capacity of clubfoot patients.

Entrepreneurship in care for elderly people with dementias: situated responses to NPM-based healthcare reforms in the Netherlands.

Background: Despite the great confidence of Western governments in the principles of New Public Management (NPM) and its ability to stimulate "healthcare entrepreneurship", it is unclear how policies seeking to reform healthcare services provoke such entrepreneurship in individual institutions providing long-term healthcare. This study examines such situated responses in a Dutch nursing home for elderly people suffering from dementias such as Alzheimer's disease.

Building multi-system nexuses in low-carbon transitions: Conflicts and asymmetric adjustments in Norwegian ferry electrification.

While nexus research in sustainability science has investigated the consequences of connected systems, it has paid less attention to the processes of building nexuses which is becoming increasingly important in low-carbon transitions because these often require the creation of new connections between multiple consumption-production systems. Building on multi-system research in the sustainability transitions literature, this paper introduces a conceptual system interface perspective on nexus-building which considers four dimensions (technology, actors, institutions, and resources) that are useful for analyzing nexus-building dynamics. We apply our framework to the case of electrification of ferries in Norway which requires the building of a new interface between the electricity system and the maritime transport system.

Introduction: Maternal anxiety and depression are major public health issues with prevalence as high as one in five women. There is a need to focus on preventative strategies to enable women to self-monitor their mental health status during pregnancy and postnatally.

Aim: To co-design and test a perinatal mental health digital tool to enable women to self-monitor their mental wellbeing during pregnancy and early parenting and promote positive self-care strategies.

Background: Different types of grafts can be used for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). There is little published data regarding skeletally immature patients. The purpose of this systematic review was to assess the clinical outcomes and complications for different autograft types used in all-epiphyseal, transphyseal and partial epiphyseal/hybrid ACLR in skeletally immature children and adolescents.

Association Between Personality Traits and Functional Limitations in Older Adults with Affective Disorders: A Cross Sectional Study.

Objectives: Personality traits and affective disorders are both related to functional limitations. It is unknown whether personality traits have an additional effect on functioning in older adults with affective disorders. We studied the association between personality traits and functioning within this group.

Height is a predictor of hamstring tendon length and ACL graft characteristics in adolescents.

Background: Knowing the potential hamstring tendon length is relevant for planning ligament reconstructions in children and adolescents, as it is not uncommon to encounter small hamstring tendons intraoperatively. The aim of this study is to predict semitendinosus and gracilis tendon length based on anthropometric values in children and adolescents. The secondary aim is to analyse hamstring tendon autograft characteristics in a closed socket anterior cruciate ligament reconstructions and to evaluate the relationship with anthropometric variables.

Strategies to optimize the information provision for parents of children with developmental dysplasia of the hip.

Aims: The aim of this study was to identify the information topics that should be addressed according to the parents of children with developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) in the diagnostic and treatment phase during the first year of life. Second, we explored parental recommendations to further optimize the information provision in DDH care.

Methods: A qualitative study with semi-structured interviews was conducted between September and December 2020.

Background: Global migration has seen an increase in female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) cases observed in countries where it is not part of the cultural norm. This shift has led to many healthcare professionals (HCPs) reporting a lack of knowledge and skills necessary to support the needs of women with FGM/C.

Aim: To explore the experiences and needs of women with FGM/C accessing women's health services in South Australia.
