Long-term health-related quality of life and rhythm outcomes of catheter ablation versus antiarrhythmic drugs in patients with atrial fibrillation.

Background: Data on long-term effects of catheter ablation vs antiarrhythmic drugs (AADs) on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and atrial fibrillation (AF) burden are limited.

Objective: The study aimed to assess long-term HRQoL and rhythm data in patients with symptomatic AF.

Methods: The 75 patients who underwent ablation and 74 receiving AADs in the Catheter Ablation compared with Pharmacological Therapy for Atrial Fibrillation (CAPTAF) trial were followed for 48 months.

Background And Purpose: There is controversy regarding the results of stemmed and stemless total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) used for osteoarthritis. Therefore, we aimed to compare revision rates of stemmed and stemless TSA and to examine the impact of metal-backed glenoid components.

Methods: We included all patients reported to the Danish Shoulder Arthroplasty Register from January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2022 with an anatomical TSA used for osteoarthritis.

A greater understanding of this response can shed light on why individuals exhibit varying responses to exercise interventions. It can also provide information on the influence of certain types of exercise on tendons.

Minimal early functional gains after operative treatment of midshaft clavicular fractures: a meta-analysis of 10 randomized controlled trials including 1333 patients.

Background: There is substantial evidence that operative treatment reduces the risk of nonunion but offers no long-term functional gains compared with nonoperative treatment. Despite some studies citing quicker recovery with surgery, the promise of accelerated functional recovery remains under-investigated. The aim of this meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials was to investigate the possible early functional gains (≤6 months) after operative treatment of displaced midshaft clavicular fractures compared with nonsurgical treatment.

Induction of a lasting protective immune response is dependent on presentation of epitopes to patrolling T cells through the HLA complex. While peptide:HLA (pHLA) complex affinity alone is widely exploited for epitope selection, we demonstrate that including the pHLA complex stability as a selection parameter can significantly reduce the high false discovery rate observed with predicted affinity. In this study, pHLA complex stability was measured on three common class I alleles and 1286 overlapping 9-mer peptides derived from the SARS-CoV-2 Spike protein.

Concomitant exposure to air pollution, green space, and noise and risk of stroke: a cohort study from Denmark.

Background: Air pollution, road traffic noise, and green space are correlated factors, associated with risk of stroke. We investigated their independent relationship with stroke in multi-exposure analyses and estimated their cumulative stroke burden.

Methods: For all persons, ≥50 years of age and living in Denmark from 2005 to 2017, we established complete address histories and estimated running 5-year mean exposure to fine particles (PM), ultrafine particles, elemental carbon, nitrogen dioxide (NO), and road traffic noise at the most, and least exposed façade.

Objectives: Air pollution increases the risk of stroke, but the literature on identifying susceptible subgroups of populations is scarce and inconsistent. The aim of this study was to investigate if the association between air pollution and risk of stroke differed by sociodemographic factors, financial stress, comorbid conditions, and residential road traffic noise, population density and green space.

Methods: We assessed long-term exposure to air pollution with ultrafine particles, PM, elemental carbon and NO for a cohort of 1,971,246 Danes aged 50-85 years.

Long-term exposure to residential transportation noise and mortality: A nationwide cohort study.

Studies have indicated that transportation noise is associated with higher cardiovascular mortality, whereas evidence of noise as a risk factor for respiratory and cancer mortality is scarce and inconclusive. Also, knowledge on effects of low-level noise on mortality is very limited. We aimed to investigate associations between road and railway noise and natural-cause and cause-specific mortality in the Danish population.

Hyperlocal air quality maps are becoming increasingly common, as they provide useful insights into the spatial variation and sources of air pollutants. In this study, we produced several high-resolution concentration maps to assess the spatial differences of three traffic-related pollutants, Nitrogen dioxide (NO), Black Carbon (BC) and Ultrafine Particles (UFP), in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and Copenhagen, Denmark. All maps were based on a mixed-effect model approach by using state-of-the-art mobile measurements conducted by Google Street View (GSV) cars, during October 2018 - March 2020, and Land-use Regression (LUR) models based on several land-use and traffic predictor variables.

Previous rotator cuff repair increases the risk of revision surgery for periprosthetic joint infection after reverse shoulder arthroplasty.

Background: Previous studies have indicated an increased risk of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) in patients treated with reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) compared with patients treated with anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty. The reason for this is unclear but may be related to a high prevalence of previous rotator cuff repair in patients who are treated with RSA. The purpose of this study was to determine previous non-arthroplasty surgery as a risk factor for revision owing to PJI after RSA for cuff tear arthropathy, massive irreparable rotator cuff tears, or osteoarthritis.

Therefore, this study examined (1) if 8-weeks of exercise could modulate clinical pain or temporal summation of pain (TSP), conditioned pain modulation (CPM), and exercise-induced hypoalgesia (EIH) and (2) if any of these parameters could predict the effect of 8-weeks of exercise in patients with unilateral SAPS.

This study estimates the effect on air quality of retrofitting SCRT on about 300 urban buses in Copenhagen from September 2015 to March 2016. The retrofitted buses were of Euro III, Euro IV and EEV emission standards.
