Conceptualizing Digital Stress in Adolescents and Young Adults: Toward the Development of an Empirically Based Model.

Existing literature provides a complicated picture of the relationship between digital media use and psychological outcomes. Both correlational and some experimental studies suggest that social media use specifically can be associated with diminished psychological functioning in adolescents and young adults. However, these effect sizes are not large, and must be considered in light of studies that suggest some positive outcomes associated with some uses of digital media, and a range of moderators of the identified associations.

The Natural History of Untreated Primary Hypogammaglobulinemia in Adults: Implications for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Common Variable Immunodeficiency Disorders (CVID).

Adults with primary hypogammaglobulinemia are frequently encountered by clinicians. Where IgG levels are markedly decreased, most patients are treated with subcutaneous or intravenous immunoglobulin (SCIG/IVIG), because of the presumed risk of severe infections. The natural history of untreated severe asymptomatic hypogammaglobulinemia is thus unknown.

Repression of MicroRNA-30e by Hepatitis C Virus Enhances Fatty Acid Synthesis.

Chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection often leads to end-stage liver disease, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). We have previously observed reduced expression of microRNA-30e (miR-30e) in the liver tissues and sera of patients with HCV-associated HCC, although biological functions remain unknown. In this study, we demonstrated that HCV infection of hepatocytes transcriptionally reduces miR-30e expression by modulating CCAAT/enhancer binding protein β.

One-year test-retest reliability of ten vision tests in Canadian athletes.

: Vision tests are used in concussion management and baseline testing. Concussions, however, often occur months after baseline testing and reliability studies generally examine intervals limited to days or one week. Our objective was to determine the one-year test-retest reliability of these tests.

Nuclear Motion in the Intramolecular Dihydrogen-Bound Regime of an Aminoborane Complex.

The 1,3-diaza-2,4-diborobutane (NBNB) molecule serves as the smallest model complex of an intramolecular "dihydrogen bond," which involves a nominally hydrogen-bonding interaction between amine and borane hydrogen atoms. In the present study, the role of this dihydrogen bond in influencing the inherent molecular dynamics of NBNB is investigated computationally with ab initio molecular dynamics and path integral molecular dynamics techniques, as well as vibrational spectra analysis and static quantum chemistry computations. These simulations indicate that the dihydrogen-bonding interaction impacts both the high- and low-frequency motions of the molecule, with the dominant motions involving low-frequency backbone isomerization and terminal amine rotation.

Transient hypogammaglobulinaemia of infancy: many patients recover in adolescence and adulthood.

Transient hypogammaglobulinaemia of infancy (THI) is a relatively rare disorder where there is an exaggeration of the physiological nadir of immunoglobulin (Ig)G between loss of transplacentally acquired maternal IgG and production by the infant. Patients may be vulnerable to infections during the period of hypogammaglobulinaemia. The precise time to recovery in all infants is currently unknown.

Lifestyle in patients at increased risk of colorectal cancer.

Background: The present study aimed to assess modifiable risk factors in patients at high risk for colorectal cancer (CRC) and their experience of lifestyle advice.

Methods: A questionnaire study was conducted in high-risk CRC patients attending for surveillance colonoscopy. Current lifestyle behaviours [smoking, alcohol, diet (fruit and vegetables, wholegrains, red meat, processed meat), physical activity and bodyweight] related to CRC were ascertained, and experience on receiving, seeking and desire for advice was queried.

Trajectories of pediatric sleepiness and their associations with health-related quality of life.

The need for sleep in children has sparked extensive research, with inconclusive support for an association between sleep duration and sleep quality and health-related quality of life (HR-QOL). Daytime sleepiness, which captures a child's subjective sleep experience, has seldom been explored. Latent class growth analysis (LCGA) was employed to identify longitudinal trajectories of children's sleepiness.

Towards predicting removal rate and surface roughness during grinding of optical materials.

A series of controlled grinding experiments, utilizing loose or fixed abrasives of either alumina or diamond at various particle sizes, were performed on a wide range of optical workpiece materials [single crystals of (sapphire), SiC, (YAG), , and (LBO); a --- glass ceramic (Zerodur); and glasses of : (ULE), (fused silica), and --- (phosphate)]. The material removal rate, surface roughness, and morphology of surface fractures were measured. Separately, Vickers indentation was performed on the workpieces, and the depths of various crack types as a function of applied load was measured.

The impact of personalised risk information compared to a positive/negative result on informed choice and intention to undergo colonoscopy following colorectal Cancer screening in Scotland (PERICCS) - a randomised controlled trial: study protocol.

Background: In Scotland a new, easier to complete bowel screening test, the Faecal Immunochemical Test (FIT), has been introduced. This test gives more accurate information about an individual's risk of having colorectal cancer (CRC), based on their age and gender, and could lead to fewer missed cancers compared to the current screening test. However, there is no evidence of the effect on colonoscopy uptake of providing individuals with personalised risk information following a positive FIT test.

Gastrointestinal diagnosis using non-white light imaging capsule endoscopy.

Capsule endoscopy (CE) has proved to be a powerful tool in the diagnosis and management of small bowel disorders since its introduction in 2001. However, white light imaging (WLI) is the principal technology used in clinical CE at present, and therefore, CE is limited to mucosal inspection, with diagnosis remaining reliant on visible manifestations of disease. The introduction of WLI CE has motivated a wide range of research to improve its diagnostic capabilities through integration with other sensing modalities.

Background: Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) represents one of the most common malignancies worldwide with a high mortality rate mainly due to lack of early detection markers, frequent association with metastasis and aggressive phenotype. Recently, long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been shown to have important regulatory roles in human cancers. The lncRNA prostate cancer-associated transcript 1 (PCAT-1) showed potential oncogenic roles in different cancers, however its role in HNSCC is not known.

Understanding the Systems, Contexts, Behaviors, and Strategies of Parents Advocating for Their Children With Down Syndrome.

In the current qualitative research study, we focused on understanding the ecological systems, contexts, behaviors, and strategies of parents ( N = 435) advocating for their children with an intellectual and developmental disability diagnosis, specifically Down syndrome (DS). Based on the data analysis, parents of children with DS advocate for their children frequently, in a variety of settings, with different actions, attitudes, motivations, and outcomes. The most common settings where advocacy occurred were primarily school and healthcare systems.

The Manchester International Consensus Group recommendations for the management of gynecological cancers in Lynch syndrome.

Purpose: There are no internationally agreed upon clinical guidelines as to which women with gynecological cancer would benefit from Lynch syndrome screening or how best to manage the risk of gynecological cancer in women with Lynch syndrome. The Manchester International Consensus Group was convened in April 2017 to address this unmet need. The aim of the Group was to develop clear and comprehensive clinical guidance regarding the management of the gynecological sequelae of Lynch syndrome based on existing evidence and expert opinion from medical professionals and patients.
