Background: Bullying, harassment, and undermining behaviour has a profound detrimental effect on the multi-professional team, patient safety, and clinical outcomes. Bullying creates a poor working and training environment , increasing stress, damaging confidence, and impairing wellbeing. We sought to characterize the prevalence and nature of bullying, harassment and undermining within cardiothoracic surgery in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland.

Article Synopsis
  • Studying empathy in individuals with borderline personality disorder (BPD) is crucial due to the challenges they face in interpersonal relationships.
  • This review suggests that BPD is characterized by a unique pattern of empathy, specifically showing deficits in cognitive empathy while potentially having normal or heightened emotional empathy.
  • Out of 320 articles identified, 38 met the criteria, confirming that individuals with BPD demonstrate atypical empathetic abilities that correlate with severity of the disorder and are influenced by unusual neural pathways.

Objective: The purposes of this study were to determine whether positive work environments affect clinician wellbeing and mental health, and to identify participants' priority interventions to improve clinician wellbeing. This study was designed to determine the potential benefit of modifying the aforementioned factors for clinicians and hospitals to impact positive patient outcomes.

Background: The SARS-CoV-2 virus pandemic has become one of the leading causes of death in the United States and worldwide, and has exacerbated widespread burnout among health care professionals.

Wheat is an important source of minerals for human nutrition and increasing grain mineral content can contribute to reducing mineral deficiencies. Here, we identify QTLs for mineral micronutrients in grain of wheat by determining the contents of six minerals in a total of eleven sample sets of three biparental populations from crosses between A.E.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess how donor gamete utilization, patient satisfaction, and fertility outcomes vary based on the race and ethnicity of both the patients and their chosen gamete donors at a Southeastern U.S. fertility clinic from 2015 to 2020.
  • Out of 450 patients eligible, 170 participated; findings showed that 59% preferred non-Hispanic White donors, with those preferring non-Hispanic Black donors facing significantly lower usage rates (OR 0.13) and satisfaction levels (OR 0.19).
  • The results indicated that both non-Hispanic Black patients and those using non-Hispanic Black donors had notably lower chances of successful conception (OR

Sunitinib malate is known to cause cardiotoxicity in a sub-population of patients, with heart failure seen in more severe cases. Cardiac progenitor cells (CPCs) have been identified in adult human myocardium and contribute to overall tissue maintenance, with previous work identifying negative impacts of sunitinib on these cells. This study aimed to characterise the toxic effects of sunitinib in human CPCs, applying sunitinib concentrations equivalent to clinical plasma levels to these cells .

Gene expression varies across the brain. This spatial patterning denotes specialised support for particular brain functions. However, the way that a given gene's expression fluctuates across the brain may be governed by general rules.

Significance: Glioblastoma (GBM) is a rare but deadly form of brain tumor with a low median survival rate of 14.6 months, due to its resistance to treatment. An independent simulation of the INtraoperative photoDYnamic therapy for GliOblastoma (INDYGO) trial, a clinical trial aiming to treat the GBM resection cavity with photodynamic therapy (PDT) via a laser coupled balloon device, is demonstrated.

BACKGROUND: In clinical practice, sodium correction rates are frequently limited in patients with severe hyponatremia to prevent neurologic complications. The implications of correction rates on overall mortality and length of hospital stay are unclear. METHODS: In this multicenter observational study, we evaluated the association of sodium correction rates with mortality, length of stay, and central pontine myelinolysis (CPM) in patients hospitalized with severe hyponatremia (admission serum sodium level less than 120 mEq/l).

Coordinated events of calcium (Ca) released from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) are key second messengers in excitable cells. In pain-sensing dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons, these events can be observed as Ca sparks, produced by a combination of ryanodine receptors (RyR) and inositol 1,4,5-triphosphate receptors (IP3R1). These microscopic signals offer the neuronal cells with a possible means of modulating the subplasmalemmal Ca handling, initiating vesicular exocytosis.

The voltage-gated K channel plays a key role in atrial excitability, conducting the ultra-rapid rectifier K current (I) and contributing to the repolarization of the atrial action potential. In this study, we examine its regulation by hydrogen sulfide (HS) in HL-1 cardiomyocytes and in HEK293 cells expressing human Kv1.5.

Importance: Approximately half of postpartum individuals in the US do not receive any routine postpartum health care. Currently, federal Medicaid coverage for pregnant individuals lapses after the last day of the month in which the 60th postpartum day occurs, which limits longer-term postpartum care.

Objective: To assess whether health insurance coverage extension or improvements in access to health care are associated with postpartum health care utilization and maternal outcomes within 1 year post partum.
