The nuclear two-photon or double-gamma (2γ) decay is a second-order electromagnetic process whereby a nucleus in an excited state emits two gamma rays simultaneously. To be able to directly measure the 2γ decay rate in the low-energy regime below the electron-positron pair-creation threshold, we combined the isochronous mode of a storage ring with Schottky resonant cavities. The newly developed technique can be applied to isomers with excitation energies down to ∼100  keV and half-lives as short as ∼10  ms.

Soft tissue tumors/sarcomas (STSs) in felines, encompassing a variety of mesenchymal tumors with similar histomorphological features, present diagnostic challenges due to their diverse cellular origins and the overlap with other tumor types such as feline sarcoid. This study aimed to delineate the clinical, histomorphological, and immunohistochemical characteristics of 34 feline facial spindle cell tumors affecting 29 cats, including testing for bovine papillomavirus type 14 (BPV14), the virus causing feline sarcoids. Only five out of 12 tumors previously diagnosed as feline sarcoids based on histomorphology were confirmed by PCR for BPV14, underscoring the importance of comprehensive diagnostic approaches to accurately distinguish between STSs and feline sarcoids.

We sequenced the complete mitochondrial genomes of two bat fly species within the Nycteribiidae (Diptera: Hippoboscoidea) - (Cyclopodiinae) and (Nycteribiinae). Both mitogenomes were complete and contained 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNAs, and two rRNAs. Relative to the inferred ancestral gene order of dipteran mitochondrial genomes, no rearrangements were identified in either species.

The establishment of action thresholds is becoming critical in mosquito control management to implement effective proactive control measures using limited available resources. As a part of a large-scale study to identify different mosquito control action thresholds used in different geographical regions, we conducted an initial survey to identify mosquito control programs that claim to have set action thresholds and to investigate their associated program characteristics. We identified 68% (USA), 60% (mainland Australia), 78% (Asia), 35% (Africa), and 50% (US military units) of the responding programs, which perform mosquito control, have set mosquito control action thresholds.
