Aim: To explore the role of peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT) with Yttrium-90 (Y) and Lutetium-177 (Lu) peptides in pheochromocytomas (PCCs) and paragangliomas (PGLs).
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed more than 1500 patients with histologically proven neuroendocrine tumors treated with Lu- or Y-DOTA-TATE or -TOC between 1999 to 2017 at our Institute.
Negation can be considered a shared social action that develops since early infancy with very basic acts of refusals or rejection. Inspired by an approach to the embodiment of concepts known as Multiple Representation Theories (MRT, henceforth), the present paper explores negation as an embodied action that relies on both sensorimotor and linguistic/social information. Despite the different variants, MRT accounts share the basic ideas that both linguistic/social and sensorimotor information concur to the processes of concepts formation and representation and that the balance between these components depends on the kind of concept, the context, or the performed task.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjectives: Pleomorphic lung carcinoma (PLC) is a rare histotype of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) characterized by aggressive clinical course, poor response to therapy and poor prognosis. Therefore, aim of our study is to analyze with 18F-FDG PET/CT a subset of patients affected by PLC to evaluate their metabolic characteristics in terms of SUVmax, MTV and TLG, in order to correlate them with overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS).
Material And Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 49 consecutive patients with histologically defined PLC occurred to our Institution between 2003 and 2014.
Diagnostic imaging in bladder cancer plays an important role since it is needed from pretreatment staging to follow-up, but a morphological evaluation performed with both CT and MRI showed low sensitivities and specificities in detecting pathologic lymph nodes, due to the occurrence of false positive results. Implementation of functional information provided by PET/CT could be a determinant in the management of patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer. A focus on the role of F-FDG PET/CT and alternative tracers in patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer is provided in this analysis in order to outline its potential applications in staging settings and response evaluation after neoadjuvant chemotherapy.

Methods: A literature review was conducted of electronic databases (MEDLINE, PEDro, DOAJ, BioMed Central, PLOS, and Centre for Reviews and Dissemination at the University of York) up to December 8, 2018. The biomechanical tests, which have adequate supportive literature, were divided into qualitative tests that provide a dichotomy/trichotomy-type answer to clinical diagnostic questions; semiquantitative tests that provide numerical data to clinical diagnostic questions; and quantitative tests that record continuous numerical data (in analogue or digital form).
Thyroid cancer (TC) represents less than 1% of all newly diagnosed malignancies. In some selected cases, with a high clinical suspicion for disease but negative I-131 scan, positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET) with F-18-Fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) could be helpful in the detection of disease and the definition of its extent. FDG PET/CT, better if performed after TSH stimulation analogously to patient preparation done for radioiodine scintigraphy, could be useful mainly in the detection of metastatic and recurrent disease since the uptake and diagnostic sensitivity of FDG are increased by TSH stimulation.

Prostate Cancer (PCa) represents the most common malignant tumor in men but according to the European Association of Urology (EAU) guidelines, a mass screening for PCa diagnosis should not be performed due to over-diagnosis and over-treatment related problems. An early clinical diagnosis is possible, mainly based on digital rectal examination and Prostatic Specific Agent (PSA) testing. Uptake of SS analogues (SSA) can also be due to SS-R expression on nonmalignant cells when activated as lymphocytes, macrophages, fibroblasts, vascular cells. Because of this uptake, clinical indications can be found either in neoplasms not overexpressing SS-R, as nonsmall cell lung cancer, and in active benign diseases.

Radioguided surgery (RGS) is a surgical technique that, using intra-operative probes, enables the surgeon to identify tissues preoperatively "marked" by a radiopharmaceutical. Somatostatin receptors (SSTRs) are present in the majority of neuroendocrine cells and may be over-expressed not only by tumor cells, but also by endothelial cells of peritumoral vessels, inflammatory cells and cells of the immune system, such as activated lymphocytes, monocytes and epithelioid cells. This extra neoplastic uptake is the rationale for the use of radiolabeled somatostatin analogs (SSAs) either in some tumors not expressing SSTRs or in various non-oncological diseases.

Experimental Design: In this approach, administration of a tumor-seeking Gd-containing compound would be followed by stereotactic external beam radiotherapy with 51-keV photons from a synchrotron source. At least two criteria must be satisfied before this therapy can be established: Gd must accumulate in cancer cells and spare the normal tissue; Gd must be present in almost all the cancer cell nuclei.
Objective: Gadolinium neutron capture therapy (GdNCT) is a potential treatment for malignant tumors based on two steps: (1) injection of a tumor-specific (157)Gd compound; (2) tumor irradiation with thermal neutrons. We investigated the effects of Res on the development of mammary tumors appearing spontaneously in HER-2/neu transgenic mice at an early age. The mechanisms involved in the Res antitumor effect were evaluated by studying the immune effectiveness, tumor apoptosis and expression of mRNA and protein for HER-2/neu in tumoral mammary glands from Res-treated mice and in tumor cell lines.
