Dermatophytes in Republic of Macedonia.

A total of 1742 clinically suspected samples was examined for the incidence and distribution of dermatophytes in the Republic of Macedonia from June 2007 to Jan. 2009. 600 dermatophytes were isolated and identified.

Enzymes of estrogen metabolism in endometrial cancer.

Activities of estrogen metabolism enzymes (aromatase, 2- and 4-estrogen hydroxylases, catechol-O-methyltransferase, and glutathione transferase) were studied by modern biochemical methods in tumors of patients with endometrial cancer. Relationships between enzyme activities and body weight index, age of menarche, stage of the disease, tumor histotype, differentiation degree, and depth of invasion into the myometrium were detected. The detected relationships between enzyme activities and serum concentrations of estradiol and progesterone and level of estrogen receptors in tumor tissue attest to hormone dependence of aromatase, estrogen hydroxylases, and glutathione transferase.

The safety and efficacy of ciclopirox olamine for the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis.

Ciclopirox olamine is a synthetic hydroxypiridone derived, broad spectrum, antifungal agent which has been used effectively to treat seborrheic dermatitis. Seborrheic dermatitis is a chronic dermatosis, more common in men than women, which usually occurs in sites dense with sebaceous glands in the form of mild inflammatory desquamate erythema. Treatment modalities for seborrheic dermatitis include keratolytic agents, corticosteroids and antifungal agents.
