Purpose: To describe the unique presentation, clinical course, management, and outcome of vitamin A deficiency-induced keratomalacia leading to bilateral corneal melts and ulcers in a patient with severe dietary restrictions because of psychiatric disease.

Methods: Review of patient's record and literature pertinent to her condition.

Results: A 33-year-old woman with a phobia of consuming most foods presented with bilateral corneal ulcers and melts from an unusual case of keratomalacia caused by vitamin A deficiency.

Purpose: Biodendrimer-based hydrogel adhesives were derived from biocompatible building blocks and poly(ethylene glycol) of 3,400, 10,000 and 20,000 g/mole. The leaking pressures were determined for these adhesives when used to seal 4.1-mm central lacerations and penetrating keratoplasties (PKPs) in enucleated porcine eyes.

Background: We recently developed a new tetracycline-inducible gene switch employing the tetracycline operator-containing hCMV major immediate-early promoter and the tetracycline repressor, tetR, rather than the previously used tetR-mammalian cell transcription factor fusion derivatives.

Materials And Methods: The present study demonstrates that this tetR-mediated transcription repression system can function as a powerful gene switch for On-and-Off regulation of therapeutic gene expression in ex vivo gene transfer protocols. Firstly, for achieving regulated gene expression in a localized tissue environment, R11/OEGF cells, a stable line that expresses hEGF under the control of the tetR-mediated transcription repression switch, were transplanted into porcine full-thickness wounds enclosed by wound chambers.

A stable cross-linked hydrogel was formed under mild aqueous conditions using pseudoproline peptide ligation chemistry. A cysteine-terminated lysine dendron containing four cysteines and a PEG macromolecule modified with terminal ester aldehydes were prepared. Upon mixing, the two macromers gave a stable hydrogel.

Purpose: To report a case of hypopyon uveitis associated with systemic lupus erythematosus and antiphospholipid antibody syndrome.

Methods: Interventional case report: a 49-year-old woman with a history of systemic lupus erythematosus and antiphospholipid antibody syndrome presented with sudden onset of pain, redness, photophobia, and decreased vision in the left eye. Examination revealed hypopyon uveitis and vaso-occlusive retinopathy.
