A van der Waals telluride, NbFeTe, has been synthesized using chemical vapor transport reactions. The optimized synthetic conditions yield high-quality single crystals with a novel monoclinic crystal structure. Monoclinic NbFeTe demonstrates a (100) cleavage plane, bulk ferromagnetism below 87 K, and a metallic ground state-the necessary prerequisites for needed spintronics technologies.

Nanosystems for targeted delivery and remote-controlled release of therapeutic agents has become a top priority in pharmaceutical science and drug development in recent decades. Application of a low frequency magnetic field (LFMF) as an external stimulus opens up opportunities to trigger release of the encapsulated bioactive substances with high locality and penetration ability without heating of biological tissue in vivo. Therefore, the development of novel microencapsulated drug formulations sensitive to LFMF is of paramount importance.

Recently, the iron containing langasite-type crystal BaNbFeSiO has attracted great attention as a new magnetically induced multiferroic. In this work, magnetic, structural and electronic properties of the multiferroic BaNbFeSiO were investigated by several methods, including synchrotron X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy and synchrotron Mössbauer source technique at high quasi-hydrostatic pressures (up to 70 GPa), created in diamond anvil cells. At room temperature, two structural transitions at pressures of about 3.

Core-shell FeO@C nanoparticles (NPs) modified with Ag were studied with x-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive elemental mapping, Mössbauer spectroscopy, static magnetic measurements, and optical magnetic circular dichroism (MCD). FeO@C NPs synthesized by the pyrolysis process of the mixture of Fe(NO) · 9HO with oleylamine and oleic acid were added to a heated mixture of oleylamine and AgNO in different concentrations. The final product was a mixture of iron oxide crystalline NPs in an amorphous carbon shell and Ag crystalline NPs.

One of the future applications of magnetic nanoparticles is the development of new iron-oxide-based magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) negative contrast agents, which are intended to improve the results of diagnostics and complement existing Gd-based contrast media. Iron oxide nanoparticles designed for use as MRI contrast media are precisely examined by a variety of methods: powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Raman spectroscopy, Mössbauer spectroscopy and zero-field nuclear magnetic resonance (ZF-NMR) spectroscopy. TEM and XRD measurements reveal a spherical shape of the nanoparticles with an average diameter of 5-8 nm and a cubic spinel-type crystal structure of space group -3.

A mechanism was established for the formation of nanosized iron carbide particles encapsulated in carbon shells via the processes of ferrocene thermal conversions at high pressures. At a pressure of 8.0 GPa, products of ferrocene decomposition were studied as a function of temperature by X-ray diffraction, Raman and Mössbauer spectroscopy, scanning and transmission electron microscopy.

The combustion method was used to prepare a precursor powder of an iron-gallium oxide compound which was further heat-treated in order to obtain a set of Fe1+xGa2-xO4 nanoparticles. All samples have a cubic spinel-type structure (space group Fd3[combining macron]m) and the particle size varies from 1.8 to 28.

Single crystalline iron sulfide nanoparticles doped with chromium Fe1-xCrxS (0 ≤x≤ 0.15) have been successfully prepared by a thermal decomposition method. The particles are self-organized into the single crystalline plates with the accurate hexagonal shape and dimensions up to 1 μ in plane and about 30-40 nm in thickness.

Hollow microcapsules with the shell composed of biodegradable polyelectrolytes modified with the maghemite nanoparticles were fabricated by in situ synthesis. The nanoparticles were synthesized from the iron salt and the base directly on the capsule shells prepared by "layer by layer" technique. An average diameter of the capsule was about 6.

Iron selenide nanoparticles with the NiAs-like crystal structure were synthesized by thermal decomposition of iron chloride and selenium powder in a high-temperature organic solvent. Depending on the time of the compound processing at 340 °C, the nanocrystals with monoclinic (M)-Fe3Se4 or hexagonal (H)-Fe7Se8 structures as well as a mixture of these two phases can be obtained. The magnetic behavior of the monoclinic and hexagonal phases is very different.
