[The study of nickel and chromium contents in dietary supplements supporting slimming].

The market of dietary supplements develops extremely fast in the whole world, also in Poland. A great popularity is ascribed to preparations aiding slimming diet. The application of dietary supplements aimed at reducing body's weight is a result of trends connected with the popularity of a healthy lifestyle and the care about one's appearance.

Selected microelements (Cr, Zn, Cu, Mn, Fe, Ni) in slimming preparations.

Concerning the etiopathogenesis, one can speak about the following types of obesity: primary nutritional, occurring as a result of the joint action of genetic and environmental factors, and secondary obesity--which is a symptom of e.g. metabolic diseases.

[Copper and zinc in food products for infants and children].

Ready to use infant food, namely 7 types of fruit and vegetable juices, 7 types of vegetable-meat soups and 8 types of dinner vegetable-meat meals, was investigated by the flame AAS towards the copper and the zinc content. [Nitrite and nitrate content in selected herbal medicaments used in obesity and diabetes mellitus type 2 treatment].

In this study we assessed the content of nitrites III and V in selected herbal medicaments used in obesity and diabetes mellitus type 2 treatment. The spectrophotometry Griess and Ilosvay method with cadmium column was used. Nitrites III content in all investigated herbal medicaments did not make any health menace for patients but content of nitrites V is very high and impacts on ADI.

[Iron and manganese in selected herbs and herbal-fruit teas].

The aim of this study was the determination iron and manganese contents in selected herbs, herbal-fruit teas and their water extracts. The samples were mineralized at temperature of 450 degrees C. The iron and manganese contents were determined by atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS) directly from the mineralizates using SOLAAR M5 appliance produced by a US-based Thermo Elemental.

[Cereal products as a source of iron and manganese].

Iron and manganese concentrations in wheat, wheat flours, rye flours, rye breads and wheat breads taken in Lublin province was determined. The study was performed in 1999-2003. Analyses were performed using flame AAS, after dry ashing of samples in quartz crucible pats at 450 degrees C.

Determination of Fe(II) and Zn(II) by spectrophotometry, atomic absorption spectrometry and ions chromatography methods in Vitrum.

Metrian [3-mercapto-5-(2'-hydroxynaphtylazo-1')-1,2,4-triazole]; Metriap [3-mercapto-5-(3',4'-dihydroxyphenylazo-1')-1,2,4-triazole]; Metriarez-gamma [3-mercapto-5-(2',4'-dihydroxy-3'-caroboxyphenylazo-1')-1,2,4-triazole] and Metidarez-beta [2-mercapto-5-(2',4'-dihydroxy-5'-carboxyphenylazo-1')-1,3,4-thiadiazole]-reagents were synthesized on Faculty of Pharmacy, Medical University of Lublin and used for the determination by different analytical methods of milligram quantities of Fe(II) and Zn(II) occurring together in pharmaceutical preparations, both multivitamin preparations and those containing microelements. The determination results of classical spectrophotometry (D0), spectrophotometry of derivatives (D1 and D2), atomic absorption spectrometric (AAS) and ions chromatography (IC) were analyzed statistically and compared with declared amount. The advantages of the proposed method of Fe(II) and Zn(II) determination include it's excellent precision and reproducibility of results.

[The influence of carcinogenesis in the oral cavity on the level of zinc, copper and iron in serum].

Samples of blood serum originating from the patients with squamous cell carcinoma of various parts of the oral cavity (carcinoma planoepitheliale spinocellulare: mucosae buccae, fundi oris, linguae, palati molli) were analyzed for presence of some microelements (zinc, copper and iron) using the AAS method. The findings were compared to amounts of these elements in serum of healthy persons (control samples). Significant differences among groups (with cancer and control) were qualified using nonparametric U-Mann Whitney test.

[Examination of nickel and chromium contents in selected herbs, herbal fruit teas and their infusions].

The aim of this study was to determine the contents of nickel and chromium (the trace elements that are necessary for the human organism only in specified amounts) in selected dry herbs, herbal-fruit teas and their water extracts. This examination was expected to answer the question whether infusions or decoctions may constitute the additional source of these elements, or whether the amounts of nickel and chromium included in them may be dangerous for the human organism. The samples were dry mineralized at the temperature of 450 degrees C.

Spectrophotometric determination of Fe(II) and Zn(II) in the pharmaceutical multivitamin preparations with microelements.

3-mercapto-5-(3,4-dihydroxyphenylazo-1')-1,2,4-triazole (METRIAP), 3-mercapto-5-(2,4-dihydroxy-3-carboxyphenylazo-1)-1,2,4-triazole (METRIAREZ-gamma) and 2-mercapto-5-(2,4-dihydroxy-5-carboxyphenylazol-)-1,3,4-thiadiazole (METIDAREZ-beta), reagents synthesized in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry of Medical University in Lublin, have been used to determine Fe(II) and Zn(II) in Materna, Centrum, H-Pantoten pharmaceutical multivitamin preparations, containing other trace elements. Zn (II) with METRIAREZ-gamma at pH=7.35, and Fe(II) with METRIAP and METIDAREZ-beta at pH=10.

[Influence of carcinogenesis in the oral cavity on the level of some bioelements in the saliva].

The aim of this study was the examination of influence the oncogenesis process of oral cavity on the level of some bioelements (Ca, Mg, K, Na, Zn, Cu, Mn, Fe) in the saliva. The saliva was sourced from patients with oral cancer (carcinoma planoepitheliale spinocellulare keratodes and akeratodes: mucosae buccae, fundi oris, linguae, palati molli). The determination of the analyzed elements were made by atomic absorption spectrophotometry method.

[Study of estrogen deficiency impact on manganese levels in teeth and mandible of rats after ovariectomy].

Deficiency of the estrogens occurring after menopause or ovariectomy leads to osteopenia and osteoporosis. It was confirmed by noninvasion examinations of bones--skeleton, maxilla mandible and teeth. Demineralization of the hard tissues were connected with loss of calcium and phosphorus, however the role of microelements is not completely known (for example role of Mn).

[Assessment of the alkaline (ALP) and acid phosphatase (ACP) in the blood serum of rats during experimental postmenopausal osteoporosis].

The aim of this study was to evaluate the activity of alkaline (ALP) and acid (ACP) phosphatase in the blood serum of rats after ovariectomy and with estrogen replacement therapy. The relationship between mandible and spine bone mineral density (BMD) and parameters of bone remodeling was also estimated. The concentration of serum total alkaline and acid phosphatase was higher in the rats with estrogen deficiency, and statistically lower in rats administering 17 beta-estradiol.
