Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the European Union (EU), and while the mortality rates of diabetes, myocardial infarction, and the total fat intake have been extensively studied, we believe that understanding the interaction between such closely correlated determinants is crucial to the development of effective health policies in the EU. Our paper's novelty is represented by the econometric modelling, and its ability to capture both temporal and unit variations. The research methodology consists of using a panel data model with fixed effects for the 27 EU member states over the period 2010-2021.

Rapidly adaptable automated interpretation of point-of-care COVID-19 diagnostics.

Background: Point-of-care diagnostic devices, such as lateral-flow assays, are becoming widely used by the public. However, efforts to ensure correct assay operation and result interpretation rely on hardware that cannot be easily scaled or image processing approaches requiring large training datasets, necessitating large numbers of tests and expert labeling with validated specimens for every new test kit format.

Objective: The objective of this study was to describe and discuss the safety monitoring methodology and the challenges associated with ensuring patient safety in the SLS. Refinements to safety monitoring processes and infrastructure are also discussed.

[Early detection of autism spectrum disorders].

The evaluation of the development of young children had to consider the possible detection of neurodevelopmental disorders in particular autism spectrum disorders. When a child of 18 months has a developmental language delay or a defect in social contact, the hypothesis of autism must be considered through a clinical evaluation. We will point out some clinical guidelines and some early signs to detect the trouble and to propose early treatment interventions.

Experimental study regarding the changes in the median sagittal suture post disjunction on common rabbit breed.

Widening of the upper jaw by undoing the median suture is a relatively common clinical procedure and the histological studies on sutural tissues, both immediately after disjunction and post disjunction are relatively rare. The present research aims to study cellular changes caused after undoing the median maxillary suture, on a strain of common rabbit breed, in an attempt to prove that the purpose of this therapeutic technique is obtaining neoformed osseous tissue, as a guarantee of the stability of orthodontic treatment results. Of course, changes in rabbit desmale tissues cannot be fully assimilated to the human ones.

Antisynthetase syndrome with anti-Jo1 antibodies in 48 patients: pulmonary involvement predicts disease-modifying antirheumatic drug use.

Objective: To analyze the characteristics, outcomes, and predictive factors of disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD) use in 48 patients with antisynthetase syndrome [characterized by myositis, interstitial lung disease (ILD), arthritis, Raynaud's phenomenon (RP), and/or mechanic's hands] and the presence of anti-histidyl-transfer RNA synthetase (anti-Jo1) autoantibodies.

Methods: Forty-eight patients (33 women, 15 men) who were anti-Jo1-positive referred to one center between 1998 and 2008 were analyzed retrospectively.

Results: The median age of disease onset was 43 years [interquartile range (IQR) 33-53 yrs].

The clinical phenotype and evolution of antisynthetase syndrome (ASS) are heterogeneous. This study was therefore undertaken to identify subgroups of ASS patients with similar clinico-biological features and outcomes. This retrospective multicentric study included 233 consecutive patients with three different anti-aminoacyl-tRNA-synthetase antibodies (anti-ARS): anti-Jo1 (n=160), anti-PL7 (n=25) and anti-PL12 (n=48).

During the development of the neuronic and visceral cranium, an important number of factors, not only genetic, but also functional, led to the apparition of some different aspects of growing at the level of each section: the basis of the cranium, the basis of the maxillary, dental alveolus, dental arch. All these "aggravating" or "compensatory" changes are added to the level of the occlusion plan, leading to the establishment of the occlusion relations in the three plans. From now on, the occlusion will directly influence the development at the level of the above-described sections.

Specific morphological aspects of the teeth and alveolar bone in Class II/2 malocclusion.

In the genesis of dental-maxillary anomalies both morphologic factors (of proven genetic origin) and functional factors (as added ethio-pathogenic elements) are incriminated. From this point of view, Class II/2 malocclusion, presents two morphologic factors whose genetic origin is certain and upon which functional factors have minor influence. These are: the morphology of the teeth and alveolar process in the anterior region of the maxilla and the type of rotation.

Results: 172 articles were identified, out of which 86 for pneumologists, 7 for otorhinolaryngologists and 79 for dentists.

Ceruloplasmin - acute-phase reactant or endogenous antioxidant? The case of cardiovascular disease.

Ceruloplasmin is a plasma protein that functions as a copper transporter. Epidemiological studies have indicated an association between the concentration of this protein and risk for cardiovascular disease. The mechanism for the involvement of ceruloplasmin in cardiovascular disease and other conditions is not yet clear, although it is widely accepted that the role played by ceruloplasmin in facilitating or counteracting oxidative stress is central.

De-Nol in the treatment of reflux esophagitis.

Twenty-eight patients with histologically proven reflux esophagitis were randomly allocated to receive either De-Nol (tripotassium dicitrate bismuthate) or placebo for three weeks. Significant decreases in symptoms frequency and severity were noted in De-Nol group comparing with placebo group (p less than 0.01).
