The Inflow, Throughput and Outflow of COVID-19 Patients in Dutch Hospitals: Experiences from Experts and Middle Managers.

At the beginning of 2020, the large and unforeseen inflow of COVID-19 patients had a deep impact on the healthcare operations of Dutch hospitals. From a patient flow logistics perspective, each hospital handled the situation largely in its own particular and improvised way. Nevertheless, some hospitals appeared to be more effective in their dealing with this sudden demand for extra care than others.

Congenital diaphragmatic hernia is associated with nonscrotal testes.

Background: Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) is a rare birth defect with a high mortality and morbidity. Nonscrotal testes (NST) are the most reported genital anomaly in boys. Both defects have known associated anomalies, but little is known about the association between CDH and NST.

Factors related to long-term surgical morbidity in congenital diaphragmatic hernia survivors.

Background: Patients born with a congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) have a high mortality and morbidity. After discharge, complications and long-term morbidity are still encountered. This study describes the factors related to the surgical long-term outcomes in CDH survivors.

Sustainability of improvements in access to outpatient specialist care in the Netherlands.

Objectives: To improve access to specialist outpatient clinics without adding capacity, Dutch hospitals applied the concept of 'Advanced Access'. Our aim was to determine whether initial improvements are sustained for three years and to identify the factors that influence sustainability.

Methods: Qualitative case studies in 14 outpatient specialist clinics.

[Muscle problems due to statins: underestimated].

Statin-associated muscle problems are more common than the 1-5% prevalence reported in large clinical trials. Observational studies show a prevalence of about 10%. Muscle problems can occur anytime during statin treatment, but usually occur in the first 6 months.

Giant cell arteritis: heterogeneity in clinical presentation and imaging results.

Objective: Giant cell arteritis (GCA) is commonly known for its clinical presentation of temporal arteritis. However, GCA affects large arteries, predominantly the aorta and its proximal branches, in up to 75% of cases. We describe the clinical presentation and diagnostic test results of patients with large-vessel GCA.
