Histopathological diagnosis and surgical complications following bilateral anal sacculectomy for the treatment of unilateral canine apocrine gland anal sac adenocarcinoma: 35 cases (2019-2023).

Objectives: To report the histopathological diagnosis of both anal sacs in dogs undergoing bilateral anal sacculectomy for the treatment of unilateral apocrine gland anal sac adenocarcinoma and to compare the surgical complication rate associated with this procedure in this population with previously published literature.

Materials And Methods: Records were retrospectively reviewed for dogs that underwent bilateral anal sacculectomy for the treatment of apparently unilateral apocrine gland anal sac adenocarcinoma, at a single institute between 2019 and 2023. Clinical staging, surgical treatment, histological findings, intra- and postoperative complications were evaluated.

Comparison of surgical indications and short- and long-term complications in 56 cats undergoing perineal, transpelvic or prepubic urethrostomy.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare indications, complications and mortality rates for perineal urethrostomy (PU), transpelvic urethrostomy (TPU) and prepubic urethrostomy (PPU).

Methods: A retrospective review of, and follow-up owner questionnaire for, cats undergoing urethrostomy between 2008 and 2018, at a single referral hospital, were performed.

Results: Fifty-six cats underwent urethrostomy (PU, n = 37; TPU, n = 8; PPU, n = 11).

Free-floating thrombus in stroke patients with nonstenotic internal carotid artery-an ultrasonographic study.

Background: There are multiple causes of free-floating thrombus (FFT) formation in carotid arteries. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the incidence and natural history of FFT in nonstenotic internal carotid arteries of patients with acute ischemic stroke.

Methods: During a 50-month period, 3,200 consecutive patients with acute ischemic stroke were evaluated for internal carotid artery stenosis and the presence of FFT by color-coded duplex ultrasonography.

Unexpected arterial recanalization after decompressive hemicraniectomy.

We report a 43-year-old patient with malignant embolic ischemic stroke in the right middle cerebral artery (MCA), treated by decompressive hemicraniectomy. Cerebrovascular ultrasound detected a subtotally occluding thrombus in the right internal carotid artery and a partial occlusion of the ipsilateral MCA. After the surgery, complete recanalization of the affected vessels was observed.

Mesencephalic form of meningoencephalitis in a patient with HLA-B51 Behçet's disease: case report.

This case report is a detailed description of the clinical, laboratory, imaging and therapeutic characteristics of the sixth patient with neuro-Behçet's disease reported by Bulgarian authors. The diagnosis was made in accordance with the international diagnostic criteria for Behçet's disease and was verified by skin biopsy. Therapeutic response was followed up by clinical and magnetic resonance imaging data for 6 months.

[Phlebothrombosis and thrombophlebitis during the second half of pregnancy and puerperium].

Fhlebothrombosis and thrombophlebitis of the cerebral veins and sinuses develop relatively rare, but they affect young people and have poor prognosis. Pregnancy and puerperium are et risk due to hormonal and homeostatic changes in the organism. This report exhibits the most frequent etiologic factor, early symptoms, clinical manifestation, diagnostic value of the different methods, treatment principals and the factors that determine the outcome of thrombofphlebitis and phlebothrombosis during pregnancy and puerperium.

Bioequivalence of a novel high-dose oral formulation of alpha-dihydroergocryptine.

The plasma pharmacokinetics of alpha-dihydroergocryptine (DHEC, CAS 14271-05-7) were investigated in 24 patients with Parkinson disease after the administration of repeated oral doses of 40 mg DHEC twice daily by means of a novel 40 mg DHEC tablet (Almirid 40 mg test T) and an established 20 mg DHEC tablet (Almirid 20 mg - reference R). The trial was conducted according to a randomised, controlled, open, within-subject cross-over design; steady-state was established by means of a stepwise up-titration from 5 to 40 mg b.i.

The brain scintiscan with iodine-123-ioflupane to diagnose early Parkinson's disease; seven months follow up. First results in Bulgaria.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the brain scintiscan images with (123)I-ioflupane for the diagnosis of patients with early Parkinson's disease (PD). Sixteen patients were studied, nine males and seven females, aged between 38-81 y (mean age: 64 y). All patients underwent thyroid blocking by oral administration of 120 mg potassium iodide before and 24 h after the intravenous (iv) injection of 110-185 MBq/70 kg patient's weight, of (123)I-ioflupane.

Efficacy and safety of topical hirudin (Hirudex): a double-blind, placebo-controlled study.

Hirudin, a thrombin inhibitor isolated from the leech Hirudo medicinalis, has been long known for its anticoagulant effects. In 1990, the former German BGA has published a monograph on Hirudo medicinalis extract (containing Hirudin and Eglin), stating that its local use is indicated in bruises with or without hematoma. The aim of this double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of a Hirudin-containing cream (Hirudex cream; Hirudo medicinalis extract 280 UI/100 g) in patients affected with bruises with or without hematoma.

Functional methods for evaluation the occurrence of delayed ischemic deficit in patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage.

Detection of early circulatory and electrophysiologic changes due to vasospasm (VS) after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a necessity for in-time and adequate therapeutic management. The aim of the present case report is to describe and demonstrate the results of transcranial Doppler (TCD) monitoring and brainstem auditory evoked potentials (BAEPs) examination, which indicate the development of combined circulatory insufficiency in two vascular systems. On the 14th day after SAH, TCD showed accelerated velocities in the territory of middle cerebral artery (MCA) and basilar artery (BA).

[The use of ketamine in an experimental model of generalized cerebral ischemia].
