Background: Transfusion-related iron overload (TRIO) is a widely acknowledged late effect of antineoplastic therapy in pediatric cancer survivors, but firm guidelines as to screening protocols or at-risk populations are lacking in the literature.
Procedure: We performed retrospective analysis of all oncology patients diagnosed at our center from 2014 to 2019, who underwent TRIO screening as part of an internal quality improvement project. Correlations of MRI-confirmed TRIO with patient-, disease-, and treatment-specific features were evaluated.
Purpose: We first described the role of local radiation therapy (LT) for oligoprogressive disease (OPD) on targeted therapy in 2012. Here, we present an updated and larger data set and extend the analysis beyond EGFR and ALK.
Methods: A retrospective review of patients with metastatic NSCLC harboring V600E mutations, or rearrangements, who had OPD on respective tyrosine-kinase inhibitor (TKI) and treated with LT was performed.
Background: The impact of sedation on the quality of initial skeletal surveys performed for suspected physical abuse in children is not known.
Objective: To assess whether sedation influenced the number of, reason for and effective dose of repeat radiographs obtained as part of initial skeletal surveys, and their mean examination times.
Materials And Methods: One hundred consecutive antemortem initial skeletal survey examinations performed for suspected physical abuse in children <2 years were retrieved from two tertiary paediatric hospitals: Centre 1, where sedation is not used for initial skeletal survey imaging; and Centre 2, where sedation is used routinely.
Colorectal cancer has been linked to chronic colitis and red meat consumption, which can increase colonic iron and heme. Heme oxygenase-1 ( ) metabolizes heme and releases ferrous iron, but its role in colonic tumorigenesis is not well-described. Recent studies suggest that ferroptosis, the iron-dependent form of cell death, protects against colonic tumorigenesis.

The efficacy and safety of combining MET TKIs (such as crizotinib, capmatinib, or tepotinib) with parent TKIs to target acquired MET resistance are not well characterized.
Methods: Multi-institutional retrospective chart review identified 83 patients with metastatic oncogene-driven NSCLC that were separated into the following two pairwise matched cohorts: (1) MET cohort (n = 41)-patients with acquired MET resistance continuing their parent TKI with a MET TKI added or (2) Chemotherapy cohort (n = 42)-patients without any actionable resistance continuing their parent TKI with a platinum-pemetrexed added.
Introduction: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic created disruption in health care delivery, including a sudden transition to telehealth use in mid-March 2020. The purpose of this study was to examine changes in the mode of prenatal care visits and predictors of telehealth use (provider-patient messaging, telephone visits, and video visits) during the COVID-19 pandemic among those receiving care in a large, academic nurse-midwifery service.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of those enrolled for prenatal care in 2 nurse-midwifery clinics between 2019 and 2021 (n = 3172).
Ovarian cancer is the deadliest gynecological malignancy of the reproductive organs in the United States. Cyclin-dependent kinase 1 (CDK1) is an important cell cycle regulatory protein that specifically controls the G2/M phase transition of the cell cycle. RO-3306 is a selective, ATP-competitive, and cell-permeable CDK1 inhibitor that shows potent anti-tumor activity in multiple pre-clinical models.

The essence of patient engagement is to ensure patients feel supported, connected and empowered before, during and after the clinical trial process. There has been significant progress in the past few years and, while there is still a long way to go, 92% of clinical trial executives believe that clinical trials are now more patient-centric than ever.

Despite a considerable overlap between people experiencing homelessness and people living with substance use disorder, there is a marked lack of integration between Hawai'i's systems of care for these populations. This gap in the current system of care often creates barriers to services for those living at the nexus of homelessness and substance use. This article describes Hawai'i's current homelessness and substance use systems of care, paying particular attention to the intersection between these two systems.

We investigated the impact of tumor size on the probability of histology. We hypothesized that pediatric small renal masses are more likely benign or non-Wilms tumor, thus potentially appropriate for nephron-sparing surgery.

Objective: Convening The Center aimed to bring together "people known as patients"-the center of health care-to address priorities as they defined them.
Methods: According to the original project design, an in-person gathering was to be conducted; however, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the in-person gathering was transformed into a series of digital gatherings, including an in-depth interview phase, small-group gatherings, and a collective convening of 25 participants (22 women and 3 men from the United States, India, Costa Rica, Sweden, and Pakistan).
ONC201 is a promising first-in-class small molecule that has been reported to have anti-neoplastic activity in various types of cancer through activation of tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) as well as activation of mitochondrial caseinolytic protease P (ClpP). The present study was to explore the anti-tumor potential effect of ONC201 in ovarian cancer cell lines and in a transgenic mouse model of high grade serous ovarian cancer under obese (high fat diet) and lean (low fat diet) conditions. ONC201 significantly suppressed cell proliferation, induced arrest in G1 phase, and increased cellular stress and apoptosis, accompanied by dual inhibition of the AKT/mTOR/S6 and MAPK pathways in OC cells.

At our institution, gerbils also engage in repetitive corner jumping, which we sought to characterize as a potentially novel stereotypy in gerbils. We then attempted to mitigate this behavior by mimicking the natural habitat by adding intracage environmental complexity.

Background: ONC201 is a dopamine receptor D2 (DRD2) antagonist that inhibits tumor growth in preclinical models through ClpP activation to induce integrated stress response pathway and mitochondrial events related to inhibition of cell growth, which is being explored in clinical trials for solid tumors and hematological malignancies. In this study, we investigated the anti-tumorigenic effect of ONC201 in endometrial cancer cell lines and a genetically engineered mouse model of endometrial cancer.
Methods: Cell proliferation was assessed by MTT and colony formation assays.
Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), such as those found in fish oil, are thought to have anti-tumorigenic effects and may help to treat and prevent cancer, including ovarian cancer. Thus, we aimed to evaluate the potential of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), an omega-3 PUFA, as a therapeutic agent in ovarian cancer cell lines and a transgenic mouse model of ovarian cancer. DHA significantly inhibited cellular proliferation, induced cell cycle arrest and caused apoptosis in Hey and IGROV-1 cells.
