Width-dependent continuous growth of atomically thin quantum nanoribbons from nanoalloy seeds in chalcogen vapor.

Nanoribbons (NRs) of atomic layer transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) can boost the rapidly emerging field of quantum materials owing to their width-dependent phases and electronic properties. However, the controllable downscaling of width by direct growth and the underlying mechanism remain elusive. Here, we demonstrate the vapor-liquid-solid growth of single crystal of single layer NRs of a series of TMDs (MeX: Me = Mo, W; X = S, Se) under chalcogen vapor atmosphere, seeded by pre-deposited and respective transition metal-alloyed nanoparticles that also control the NR width.

MOVE: A Mobile App Designed for Social Health Relations in Residential Areas.

This paper describes the design of MOVE, a mobile app to support people in forming social relations around exercise in residential areas. MOVE was developed in collaboration with residents and health professionals in a neighbourhood identified as a high-risk health area. The app is targeted to those who are motivated but challenged to do exercise and based on a conceptual model to provide users a social horizon of exercise activities in their residential area.

Direct and indirect effects of waste management policies on household waste behaviour: The case of Sweden.

Swedish legislation makes municipalities responsible for recycling or disposing of household waste. Municipalities therefore play an important role in achieving Sweden's increased levels of ambition in the waste management area and in achieving the goal of a more circular economy. This paper studies how two municipal policy instruments - weight-based waste tariffs and special systems for the collection of food waste - affect the collected volumes of different types of waste.

Impacts of foreign direct investment on efficiency in Swedish manufacturing.

A number of studies have found that foreign direct investment (FDI) can have positive impacts on productivity. However, while FDI has clearly positive impacts on technology transfers, its effects on resource use within firms is less clear and, in principle, efficiency losses might offset some of the productivity gains associated with improved technologies. In this paper, we study the impacts of FDI on efficiency in Swedish manufacturing.

The value of access to water: livestock farming in the Nyagatare District, Rwanda.

In Rwanda, access to water is seen as a significant constraint to development in both urban and rural areas. The government and foreign donors give priority to improving access to water for agricultural use. In this paper we study whether and, if so, to what extent the revenue generated by livestock farming in the Nyagatare District is affected by the distance that cattle need to go in order to reach the nearest water point.

Technology-neutral green procurement in practice - an example from Swedish waste management.

Green public procurement has been criticized for its excessive reliance on detailed technology specifications, which can distort incentives in the short term and discourage innovation in the longer term. Economists therefore tend to prefer technology-neutral procurement, which rewards outcomes rather than technologies. However, technology-neutral procurement can also be problematic in practice.

Economic valuation of climate change adaptation in developing countries.

This paper reviews the literature on the economics of climate change adaptation in developing countries, and identifies three key points for consideration in future studies. One key point is that all development policy should be formulated using forecasts from climate science as a baseline. When this is not done, there is risk that a false status quo without climate change is seen as an implicit baseline.

A longitudinal study of usability in health care: does time heal?

We report from a longitudinal laboratory-based usability evaluation of a health care information system. The purpose of the study was to inquire into the nature of usability problems experienced by novice and expert users, and to see to what extend usability problems of a health care information system may or may not disappear over time, as the nurses get more familiar with it-if time heals poor design? As our method for studying this, we conducted a longitudinal study with two key studies. A usability evaluation was conducted with novice users when an electronic patient record system was being deployed in a large hospital.

Massive cholesteatoma of the frontal sinus: case report and review of the literature.

A case of a massive cholesteatoma of the frontal sinus in an 80-year-old female is reported. This lesion is very uncommon and a review of the English literature revealed only 12 reported cases. Characteristically, these tumors present unilaterally as a painless, slow-growing mass, often accompanied by frontal headache, proptosis and diplopia, and without a history of frontal sinus infection.

New modification of hot-water irrigation in the treatment of posterior epistaxis.

Background: Tamponade treatment for epistaxis is painful and traumatic to the nasal mucosa, and may necessitate hospitalization for several days. Hot-water irrigation (HWI) was introduced as a treatment of epistaxis more than 100 years ago. In a previous study the treatment proved to be effective, less painful, and less traumatic, and required a shorter hospital stay than tamponade treatment.

The non-specific effect of endolymphatic sac surgery in treatment of Meniere's disease: a prospective, randomized controlled study comparing "classic" endolymphatic sac surgery with the insertion of a ventilating tube in the tympanic membrane.

A prospective, randomized study was carried out comparing the effect of two surgical modalities in the treatment of patients with Meniere's disease: insertion of an endolymphatic sac shunt and insertion of a ventilating tube in the tympanic membrane. A total of 29 patients, 12 males and 17 females, age 27-71 years, were operated on in two ear, nose and throat (ENT) departments. Of these patients, 15 had an endolymphatic shunt inserted and 14 had a ventilating tube inserted in the tympanic membrane.

Percutaneous transhepatic cholelithotripsy for difficult common bile duct stones.

Background And Study Aims: A study was carried out to assess the feasibility of a new rapid technique for percutaneous transhepatic access to the biliary tract with endoscopic lithotripsy (percutaneous transhepatic cholelithotripsy).

Patients And Methods: 14 patients with biliary stones resistant to endoscopic retrograde cholangiography and extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy underwent cholelithotripsy, utilizing a new dilation kit with massive teflon dilators covered by "peel-away sheets".

Results: Successful lithotripsy was performed in all patients by laser lithotripsy through a choledochoscope or ureteroscope in ten patients and by stone removal by basket in the remaining four patients.

Background: The risk of bile duct injury in laparoscopic cholecystectomy has been a concern since the procedure became part of the surgical armamentarium. Our study assesses the incidence, types, and treatment for laparoscopic bile duct injury.

Study Design: Prospective case registration in a national database with participation by all departments of surgery performing laparoscopic cholecystectomy in Denmark since the first operation in January 1991.

Prospective randomized study of laparoscopic versus open colonic resection for adenocarcinoma.

Background: Laparoscopic techniques have been evaluated for many operations, but retrospective and prospective studies have failed to show these techniques to be superior to open operations in all patients with colorectal disease. This study compares laparoscopic and open colonic resection in a randomized fashion with special reference to outcome, complications and immunomodulation.
