Ophthalmologic emergencies account for tens of thousands of patients presenting to the emergency department (ED) each year. Studies continue to show that ophthalmology education in medical school is limited, and this leads to many resident physicians who lack confidence in their ophthalmological examination and procedural skills if opportunities to practice these skills are not deliberately sought out during their training. Medical simulation continues to be an excellent way for physicians to learn and master these anxiety-inducing procedures.

The purpose of this article is to bring attention to 2 topics of significant importance to the care of pregnant women and women who have recently given birth. Coronavirus disease 2019 and hypertension can have a significant impact on morbidity and mortality for these pregnant and postpartum women. Although women in their childbearing years are for the most part young and healthy, it is critically important to recognize that these patients have more stringent guidelines for vital signs and laboratory values, which should be noticed as abnormal for rapid treatment as necessary.

E-cigarette or vaping product-use-associated lung injury is a disease process obtained from smoke inhalation with electronic delivery systems and typically presents with shortness of breath, cough, and fever, not unlike pneumonia. Our patient presented with similar symptoms, and his case went unrecognized through several emergency department visits. The pathophysiology is similar to chemical pneumonitis and can cause significant morbidity and mortality, particularly when it goes unrecognized.

In a common garden study in Maine from 2012 to 2015, we used two bee species (Apis mellifera L. and Bombus ternarius Say (1837)) and three field-recognizable bee categories ('Most Bombus', 'Halictidae', and 'Other Bees') plus an 'All Bees' data aggregation to compare 17 native and 68 introduced plant taxa. Data were from three 1-min timed periods per flowering plant taxon on a given day at a site.

We report the case of an infant born with perioral vesicles that rapidly spread to involve his mouth and the majority of his body. Histopathology, immunofluorescence, and enzyme-linked immunohistochemistry assays confirmed a diagnosis of epidermolysis bullosa acquisita (EBA). His mother had no history of EBA, and serum indirect immunofluorescence was negative.

Background: Horner's syndrome refers to the clinical triad of ptosis, miosis, and anhidrosis resulting from disruption of the ocular and facial sympathetic pathways. A myriad of etiologies can lead to Horner's syndrome; awareness of the underlying anatomy can assist physicians in identifying potential causes and initiating appropriate care.

Addressing Ophthalmology Education for Newly Matriculated Emergency Medicine Residents Using Innovative Models.

Introduction: A majority of newly matriculated emergency medicine residents begin their residencies without any formal ophthalmology training received in medical school. Research on available eye models for procedural education and an eye emergencies curriculum is limited.

Methods: We developed an eye emergencies curriculum that incorporated a series of lectures and case presentations over the academic year with a biannual "ophthalmology day", which included an intense skills laboratory with novel models.

Two studies summarize the development and initial validation of the Multicultural Personality Inventory (MPI). In Study 1, the 115-item prototype MPI was administered to 415 university students where exploratory factor analysis resulted in a 70-item, 7-factor model. In Study 2, the 70-item MPI and theoretically related companion instruments were administered to a multisite sample of 576 university students.
