Epigenetic modifications are heritable, reversible changes in histones or the DNA that control gene functions, being exogenous to the genomic sequence itself. Human diseases, particularly cancer, are frequently connected to epigenetic dysregulations. One of them is histone methylation, which is a dynamically reversible and synchronously regulated process that orchestrates the three-dimensional epigenome, nuclear processes of transcription, DNA repair, cell cycle, and epigenetic functions, by adding or removing methylation groups to histones.

Electrohydrodynamic (EHD) jet printing involves the deposition of a liquid jet issuing from a needle stretched under the effect of a strong electric field between the needle and a collector plate. Unlike the geometrically independent classical cone-jet observed at low flow rates and high applied electric fields, at a relatively high flow rate and moderate electric field, EHD jets are moderately stretched. Jetting characteristics of such moderately stretched EHD jets differ from the typical cone-jet due to the nonlocalized cone-to-jet transition.

Osteoclasts, the bone-resorbing cells, are essential for the bone remodeling process and are involved in the pathophysiology of several bone-related diseases. The extensive corpus of in vitro research and crucial mouse model studies in the 1990s demonstrated the key roles of monocyte/macrophage colony-stimulating factor, receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa B ligand (RANKL) and integrin αvβ3 in osteoclast biology. Our knowledge of the molecular mechanisms by which these variables control osteoclast differentiation and function has significantly advanced in the first decade of this century.

In Type 2 diabetes (T2D), elevated lipid levels have been suggested to contribute to insulin resistance and β-cell dysfunction. We previously reported that the expression of the PGE2 receptor EP3 is elevated in islets of T2D individuals and is preferentially stimulated by palmitate, leading to β-cell failure. The mouse EP3 receptor generates three isoforms by alternative splicing which differ in their C-terminal domain and are referred to as mEP3α, mEP3β, and mEP3γ.

Owing to the essential requirement of phosphorus (P) for growth and development, plants tightly control inorganic phosphate (Pi) homeostasis. SPX-PHR regulatory circuit not only control phosphate homeostasis responses but also root mycorrhization by arbuscular mycorrhiza (AM) fungi. Besides sensing Pi deficiency, SPX (SYG1/Pho81/XPR1) proteins also control the transcription of P starvation inducible (PSI) genes by blocking the activity of PHR1 (PHOSPHATE STARVATION RESPONSE1) homologs in plants under Pi-sufficient conditions.

Heavy metals and plastic pollutants are the two most disastrous challenges to the environment requiring immediate actions. In this work, a techno-commercially feasible approach to address both challenges is presented, where a waste polypropylene (PP) based reversible sensor is produced to selectively detect copper ions (Cu) in blood and water from different sources. The waste PP-based sensor was fabricated in the form of an emulsion-templated porous scaffold decorated with benzothiazolinium spiropyran (BTS), which produced a reddish colour upon exposure to Cu.

Diagnosis and treatment of lung diseases pose serious challenges. Currently, diagnostic as well as therapeutic methods show poor efficacy toward drug-resistant bacterial infections, while chemotherapy causes toxicity and nonspecific delivery of drugs. Advanced treatment methods that cure lung-related diseases, by enabling drug bioavailability via nasal passages during mucosal formation, which interferes with drug penetration to targeted sites, are in demand.
