Glycerol, a by-product of biodiesel production through transesterification, presents an opportunity for biodiesel industries to transform surplus glycerol into high-value chemical products. This study focuses on the development of a series of propyl sulfonic acid functionalized (PrSOH) SBA-15 catalysts, synthesized by direct synthesis of 3-mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane (MPTMS) and tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) in an acidic medium. The catalysts were evaluated for acetylation of glycerol with acetic acid under conditions optimized through response surface methodology.

Catalytic partial oxidation of methane presents a promising route to convert the abundant but environmentally undesired methane gas to liquid methanol with applications as an energy carrier and a platform chemical. However, an outstanding challenge for this process remains in developing a catalyst that can oxidize methane selectively to methanol with good activity under continuous flow conditions in the gas phase using O as an oxidant. Here, we report a Fe catalyst supported by a metal-organic framework (MOF), Fe/UiO-66, for the selective and on-stream partial oxidation of methane to methanol.

A simple hydrothermal synthesis of CeO was implemented to obtain a series of CeO-supported gold (Au) catalysts, used for the total oxidation of propene/toluene/CO gas mixtures and the oxidation of CO. CeO preparation started from a cerium hydrogen carbonate precursor using a range of different hydrothermal temperatures (HT) from 120 to 180°C. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and H-temperature-programmed reduction data indicated that CeO morphology varied with the HT, and was composed of the more active (200) surface.
