- Regulatory B (Breg) cells play a role in reducing inflammation and immune responses, and their characteristics were studied in patients with granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA).
- The study found that the frequencies of certain Breg cells (CD24hiCD27+) in GPA patients were significantly reduced compared to healthy controls, both in active and remission phases of the disease.
- Despite having some ability to regulate T-cell proliferation, Breg cells from GPA patients did not effectively control the production of interferon-γ, which is associated with chronic inflammation in GPA.
