Objective: Expanded carrier screening (ECS) identified couples at-risk to have a baby with an autosomal recessive genetic condition. Several genes implicated in sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) are included in prenatal or preconception genetics ECS testing. Early identification of SNHL risk may enable prognostication of hearing loss, early educational intervention, and minimization of unnecessary diagnostic testing.

Rearrangement involving gene (-r) is recently being described in acute leukemias. We present the clinic-pathological and immunophenotypic findings in a series of five cases of acute leukemia with -r reported in our Institute between September 2020 to September 2023. Notably, while fusion was the most frequently encountered abnormality, the fusion partner was not identified in two patients with -r BCP-ALL.

Insect-microbial symbiosis contributes positively to the physiology of the insect and diet is considered as one important factor determining microbial symbiosis. In this study, we have characterized the microbiota of cigarette beetle, Lasioderma serricorne (Fabricius) on different diets and phases. The beetles were reared on different diet sources (exposed phase) for six generations and were reverted to their natal source (reverted phase) and further maintained for six more generations.

Network slicing shows promise as a means to endow 5G networks with flexible and dynamic features. The intestinal microbiota regulates mammalian lipid absorption, metabolism, and storage. We report that the microbiota reprograms intestinal lipid metabolism in mice by repressing the expression of long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) (small nucleolar RNA host gene 9) in small intestinal epithelial cells. suppressed the activity of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ)-a central regulator of lipid metabolism-by dissociating the PPARγ inhibitor sirtuin 1 from cell cycle and apoptosis protein 2 (CCAR2).

Increasing evidence has supported the role of ceramide as a mediator of photoreceptor dysfunction or cell death in ceramide accumulation and deficiency contexts. TLCD3B, a non-canonical ceramide synthase, was previously identified in addition to the six canonical ceramide synthases (CerSs), and the Tlcd3b-/- mouse model exhibited both retinal dysfunction and degeneration. As previous canonical CerS-deficient mouse models failed to display retinal degeneration, the mechanisms of how TLCD3B interacts with CerSs have not been investigated.

Recent Findings: To provide effective and high-quality surgical care across care settings, there must be a global standard for equipment and ancillary services necessary to provide baseline care. Though there have been efforts to devise resource standards via equipment lists and appraisal tools, these have been limited in scope to general surgery, emergency care, and a few other subspecialty surgical contexts.

Global temperatures are expected to increase due to climate change, and heat stress is one of the major limiting factors affecting future agriculture.
